Airbrush lube

hi,

I have an Iwata HP-CS. It says on the manual that i should apply some lube on the needle. Is there any cheap alternative to the Iwata-Medea lube? The manual said thast i should avoid WD-40

I’ve heard of people using Vaseline, but I’m not sure how well it works. Whatever you use must be something that won’t be disolved by the thinners in the paint you use.

I use the Medea Super Lube on mine, and small tube will last forever. It only takes a drop or so each time you clean your airbrush.

Scott is right in that a bottle will last many years so the price is not a concern.
A $5 bottle of lube is not much for a $105 airbrush. [;)]
Badger also makes a lube called Needle Juice which is about the same thing.

Does anyone know if Paasche air brushes require lubrication?

Is there any other subtitutes for the super lube and needle juice since we don’t have those brands here in the Philippines.

I don’t think that any airbrush actually “Requires” lubrication, it just makes them operate smoother. I put a little on the needle and the trigger linkage and my airbrush just feels smoother than it does without it. I think it helps seal the needle in the nozzle a little better as well.

As I mentioned above, I have heard of people using Vaseline but I don’t know how well it works. You don’t want anything that the paint is going to dissolve and then spit onto your model.

Thanks guys!

I’m kicking myself here because i forgot to order one with my HP-CS from Dixieart.com. Instead of saving money with their $45 free shipping now i half to pay the additional $5 for an ounce of lube. Maybe I’ll get the Master Airbrush cleaner set. Is the $35 tag on it really worth it?

I personally would not lube the needle-no need to complicate matters.

Actually the lube is very good in that it keeps paint from adhering to the needle and harming the airbrush if not cleaned well enough.
The Super Lube and Needle Juice do not affect the paint and they contain no silicone that could contaminate the finish.
I have been using it for 12 years and would not go without it, it is that good!
It also makes your airbrush feel smoother.

Sigman,

You can try a very small amount of petroleum jelly but I would go real easy with it as too much can affect the paint. Some people use glycerine for the trigger to make it smoother but it doesn’t work well on the needle.

Mike

That is a good set but it probably has more brushes than you need.
The other one that they sell is called the Airbrusher’s Brushes and those are the ones I have. They are great and are less money at $22.95.

MikeVMikeV,

Thanks Mike! Yeah i saw the airbrusher’s brushes set too. What attracts me about the Moedel Masters set is the additional lube and cleaner.

I prefer no lube on airbrushes, because i like stiff feeling triggers, better control

1337,

You make the trigger stiffer by tightening the trigger tension, not using a dry airbrush. [;)]

Mike

I was unaware of that. [:D]

Mike

Mike, thanks [:)]

Although i like that scratchy feel… who knows why
