Airbrush cleaning

I’ve had a Badger 200 of about a year now and have not used it as much as I wound like to because of the cleaning. Everytime I use it, I run to the sink and wash out the acrylics with water. This has also prevented me from using enamels. I really need a better ways to clean the airbrush. Does anyone have a way of cleaning the would help me? Thanks in advance.

Instead of running to the sink try spraying some thinner through first at high pressure , this should get rid of most of the paint in the airbrush then all you need to do is use some Q-tips and thinner and you wiil be able to clean it out with out running to the sink.

Mike,

Here is a cleaning procedure that I have posted before.
Get two of the squeeze bottles that airbrush shops sell and put cleaner in one and filtered water in the other. I use a mixture of 2 parts water, 1 part Simple Green cleaner and 1 part Windex for cleaning acrylics.

Thanks guys. MikeV will that cleaning solution work with enamels or should I just use thinner for the whole process?

In order to properly clean an airbrush after using enamels, you should use lacquer thinner. The technique used by Mike V is ideal for acrylic paints so go with that if you are painting with them. Be advised that when using lacquer thinner It is toxic and you must have adequate ventilation to protect your lungs. I spray it only outside to avoid harmful vapors. IMHO, acrylics are the best way to go but you still must be careful when airbrushing. Cleanup is so much easier with acrylics and with less toxic waste.

Why couldn’t my cleaning procedure be done with lacquer thinner?
The post never mentioned what “cleaner” you are using so substitute lacquer for the cleaner in that article if you are using enamels, lacquers, or urethanes.
Some people even use lacquer to clean acrylics, myself included.
