I’m building a 155mm Long Tom kit which has rubber tires. I’d like to dry brush them to add some realism but I’m having trouble with the enamels I usually use. Seems the rubber tire and the paint don’t like each other very much. I get a mushy result from dry brushing. Is another paint I should be using to get better results?
Paints don’t adhere well to rubber tires and tracks in my experience. I always prime them with a black primer and weather them.
They cause vinyl tires to get sticky and never dry. A good way to weather those tires is to brush or dust on some skintone talcum powder.
Use an acrylic paint. Enamels and vinyl tires don’t mix.
Thanks guys! You gave me a bunch of things to try.
Some acrylics seem to have isopropyl alcohol in mix, and others thin acrylics with iso. That will also soften vinyl.
