I’m having fun building this AFV Club Scimitar. I have three of these kits (one w/ resin upgrade to build a Scorpion), and this is the first one to get built. I like the looks of the white UN paint scheme, so this the way I’m going.
Everything is OOB. Good fit in general, several areas required very minor putty touchup. I applied a dark yellow primer, very dark green pre-shade, 4 layers of white, and dark grey/green post-shade. Need to get the wheels on and finish up the detailing. Here’s some pics of the work in progress.
Watch out for the rubber band tracks for this kit they seem to be too short and there isn’t any replacement tracks out there at this time. This was mentioned by others as well and I found their comments to be true.
I do agree. It is a bit tight. I’ve finished the Scorpion and because it is sharing the same chassis with the Scimitar the construction is practically the same. I tried lowering the road wheels a little but it was tight just the same. I have mine in desert colors.
No prob. I’ve always wanted to do a Danish Leo 1, with a mine rake. All I need is … time, and a mine rake. Not something I want to scratchbuild. There’s a nifty pic in one of Concord’s books of a UN Leo, certainly looks like a good subject. Also, looking forward to seeing the weathering you do on the Scimitar.
Thank Townsy11. I’m glad you remember the Wiesel I built a little while back. That one is sitting on the display shelf over at Hobby Annex, in Dallas. The Scimitar is coming along really well and will make a great companion. I’ve been putting a lot of hours at the office lately and haven’t had much of a chance to finish off this build. I hope to get some time in this weekend.
Just a note; I purchased the Accurate Armor replacement track for the CVR(T) series of vehicles which includes the Scorpion. It comes in equal lengths of resin track sections, no individual links. The track has to be bent around the sprockets. No instructions come with the set so I believe the track section have to be placed in warm water to become pliable enough to go around the sprockets, etc.
