It is possible to use but there will be some surgrey that has to be done. Make sure you dry fit the parts before final assembly to see what actually needs to be done. Then again some resin aftermarket inters that are for one a/c from a particular co may not work w/ other co’s kits.
As you may know that the aftermarket parts will be sizesd up for that particular kit. Ex: a resin inter for a Hasegawa 109 and you want to use it in a hobbycraft kit So trimming/reshaping or resizing may have to be done to get the right fit for the Hobbycraft 109.
I used a resin inter for a 1/48th Hase P-51 and put into a Tamiya 51 w/ really no problem at all. Of course I did some minor sanding/dry fitting but nothing major at all.
Just remember one thing, if it starts to get to ya , just walk away cause it will be their when you return…!!![:p]
Just relax and go for it. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at Falcon42177@yahoo.com

but I was just thinking , in theory 1/48scale is 1/48 scale a p51/d is a p51/d

Manufacturers will base their products on plans that are not necessarily drawn by the same people, at the same time under the same conditions… Plans are sometimes drawn up from pictures, sometimes with no direct access to the actual 1/1 subject… Take virtualy any pre-Berlin wall fall Soviet model and compare them with the latest releases and you are likely to find major discrepancies. And even in the best of conditions, humans do make mistakes!

Manufacturing process can sometimes make ‘mistakes’ or differences necessary… For instance, at similar scale, for a similar subject, two manufacturers might produce parts of different thickness, and that’s often why PE sets made to fit a particular model will not fit the same subject made by another manufacturer…
