Can you spray acrylic over solvent base primer or another color of solvent. I know you can’t spray solvent over acryl…I don’t think. I could only find my color in acrylic but I use solvent base primer & white base coat on all my cars. Thanks in advance.
Provided that the base that you are painting over is fully cured, you can paint acrylic over enamel and vice versa.
If overcoating enamels or acrylics with lacquer, the same applies, but with the added precaution of applying the lacquer in light mist coats and allowing to dry between applications.
Hey 61, I sometimes use rattle-can solvent-based primer from Testors or Tamiya, then Tamiya Acrylics over top. I try to leave at least 2-3 days to let the primer “off-gas” before laying down my finish colours haven’t seen any issues yet.
Hey thanks guys. Yeh I want to put my acryl color over my laquer primer then laquer white base. I’ll let it dry for 48 hrs. I like to use acid etch primer to diecast. Has worked great for me for years.
Thanks again for the promt replys.
Glad we could help!
Ok I spayed my color over top of laquer white & had no problems. Clearcoated over acrylic color with laquer & had no problems. I’ll post the model when finished. I assume I can post photo on this thread?
Thanks guys.
Glad it goes well, but, next time give it a week, not 48 hours.
