I have a Titanic hull painted with Humbrol emamel satin white, Humbrol enamel satin coal black and Humbrol enamel satin red. I used Testors Lacquer gloss clear on the decal spots. Decals are on and I need to cover them with a satin clear. I thought I had Testors lacquer satin clear but I looked before applying and its Testors satin clear 79501, which I think is acrylic. Can I use acrylic over lacquer?
My guess is it will work, but why risk it, when a test is easy. Spray some of the glosscoat on a piece of scrap plastic, then give it a shot of the dull clearcoat, and see what happens.
Sounds like a plan, thank you
You can spray acrylic over lacquer and lacquer over acrylic. The acrylic needs to be cured say at least 3-4 days. I shoot Testors clear flat lacquer over cured Future all the time.
I just did this with flat acrylic MM testors over MM lacquer through an airbrush and it looks fine (including over the decals).
It is best to use the same product on the model.Clear costs are not hard to get.If you use the mix of both types .Use the acrylic first then the enamel.Remember that enamel never dries.Only to the touch.Acrlic dries hard and fast.
