Achtung ! Taifun Warning !

Here’s my build of the Eduard 1/48 Bf-108B-2 kit. The Taifun (Typhoon) was developed in 1934 as an air racer. The military version was adopted by the Luftwaffe in 1939 and used mostly as a liaison aircraft.

The model represents an aircraft deployed in Lybia in 1942.

The kit features clean molding with nicely engraved recessed panel lines, good fit & excellent detail. There is a nicely done engine which unfortunately is almost invisible in the finished model.

The kit has a very detailed interior, which is needed as it is very visible through the large greenhouse canopy. The greenhouse is very well molded with a minimum of optical distortion.

The model was built OOB & painted in the Luftwaffe tropical scheme of RLM 79/80/78. ModelMaster enamels were used for all major painting. The RLM 80 mottle was freehand sprayed using an Iwata HP-CR AB. I used the kit painting guide & box top art as reference.

The excellent kit decals were used. I particularly liked the map of Africa graphic. Hope you like it. Comments & questions welcome.

Scot, I don’t keep a log so I don’t really know how long the build took. It was completed over a couple of months along with a few other builds going on at the same time.

gunney, I’m pretty sure it made an appearance in those movies, but it’s been a while since I watched them & so I’m not positive.

Chris, yeah I know, no guns or bombs. But it is a pretty cool kit.

Tango 1, Well not exactly tricky, but some experience with doing Luftwaffe mottle & some practice with an AB is required.

I’ve been thinking of getting this kit for a while. Looks like I’ll have to now.
Is the door separate? I like the way it opens. The canopy is big enough to see the interior even if you can’t open the door.
