For those who have built this one, what are your impressions? Any Issues with it? I picked one up at the vendor tables at Maraudercon in MD. I haven’t built an aircraft in quite some time, I’m usually over in the dark side (armor)
Haven’t built the -4, but I built the -5. I’ve heard that the Acc Min SBD’s are the best currently available in 1/48. I’d have to believe it based on the one I built. It was very detailed and went together very nicely.
Oh - And welcome !
Chris
I’ve built the -2 and have a -3 in my stash. Just take your time and read the instructions carefully. Utilizing on-line research and this forum are also good ideas. I took advantage of their on-line build, below, for both the -2 and an Avenger

Also, you may want to read the following review for some minor part number issues in the SBD series

Enjoy and keep us posted!
I had some problems with the separate canopies. When I tried putting them in an open position, the last one would not fit on top of the others. I think the canopies are a little too thick. If you put them on top of the other the last one goes up not touching the side of the cockpit. The flaps on my kit are also warped.
I am currently building the -5 and al the other marks are based on the same basics. I have just finished the interior and fuselage and it’s a sweet kit both in fit and level of detail. I only hope I can do it justice. AccMin kits are excellent so far with my expierences.
Steve.
P.S. Follow the instructions to the letter and you will have no problems
The only area that seems to give any trouble on these kits is getting the cowl gun troughs (and guns) to line up properly. Careful test fitting will get you through that little annoyance. Other than that, it almost falls together. If you opt for the open canopy , test fit the sections before painting. If they don’t stack properly, then I suggest (and have done successfully) first masking the lower window edge on the inside to protect it, then thin the bottom framing. This would be for the outermost section. Do both sides of the inner ones if needed. After that, bevel the rest of the frame edges to give them an even look, then paint.
Thanks for the feedback, The Dauntless has always been a favorite, I built the Monogram 1/48 and the Matchbox 1/32 many years ago, I’m looking forward to this one.
