I have a couple questions about my Accurate Miniatures TBF-1C Avenger, the George H.W. Bush version, 1/48.
Does anyone make an aftermarket engine for this version? I already have the Verlinden Avenger super detail set but this is for the TBM-3 version which had a bigger engine and different cowling architecture/design. I built the Verlinden engine and it is also bigger in diameter than the TBF-1C kit engine, though has much more detail than the kit engine, which is what I’m looking for. So, does anyone know where I can find a correct aftermarket engine? Internet links are best for me as I get 99% of my stuff this way.
Another question - What colors would this engine be if it was new or rebuilt and in a crate, ready to be used to replace a bad engine?
So far in my research I learned that the early versions of the Avenger - TBF/M-1versions had a 1,700 hp engine and the later TBM-3s had a 1,900 hp power plant.
Hope someone can help me with this.
The TBF/TBM-1 used a Wright R-2600-8 Cyclone engine good for 1700hp. While the latet -3’s used the R-2600-20 engine. The only one I can find in 1/48 scale is by engines & things. They have a -8 version of the engine, and you can order it from here:

Or just do a google search for “engines & things” for other places you can by.
Here’s some pics that should help with the colour question:
Engine pic 1
Engine pic 2
Hope that helps.
Here’s another engine picture, not quite as good as the first two.

Thanks pingtang and Wayne.
The photos are great, exactly what I was looking for and with absolutely super detail.
Great Models Webstore had the 'Engine and Things, -8 engine, and in stock, too. So I ordered it.
Another question I forgot to ask earlier - Would the George H.W. Bush Avenger have had the Yagi radar?
Thanks again - you’ve been a great help
The one on accurate miniatures site has the Yagi antennas installed. They did alot of research into his Avenger so I’d say they know what they’re on about.
