academy's 1/350 HMS warspite

got a bit of the ol run around with this kit ,ordered trumpeters version of it , got told by another mob they had the trumpeters PE , all good . forward 5 months went to start it only to find the wood deck didn’t fit , all bad , too late to send it back , so I had to order the academy’s one . also ordered this book too , which should help .

That looks interesting.

I’ve got one of those on the shelf and will probably be working on it next. I picked up a Pontos set. I hope that it works out, I’ve never had one before.

the hull halves were a real [&^%^] , to put together . had to put some re-enforcing on the inside , hopefully it holds .

the hull painted and mounted on the working board .

got some PE work done , time for a rest and a drink .

Nice! The cranes look like little models themselves.

thanks john , I enjoyed building them .

started taking some deck furniture off of it to accommodate the wood sticker .

the wood deck finally on .

also got a bit more PE done .

Steve,

Your PE looks great! But, I am confused. Is this the Trumpeter or the Academy kit? My LHS gave me the delux Academy kit while I had my broken knee and hip but I haven’t started it yet.

Bill

thanks bill , it’s the academy kit , with the MK1 PE set .

Very nice PE work.

GREAT!

Bill

cheers guys .

not sure what you call this rear deck , but its installed .

Did you do something to that deck and what is that attachment at the end?

apparently ikar01 , so I just found out , it’s called a stern walk , it comes off of the admirals quarters .

I haven’t done anything to the deck , I was going to but I like the look of it now .

got a bit more small stuff done .

love these little exhast fans

just learnt , they aren’t exhaust fans , but night lifebouy’s on the slip way ,

got a lot more little stuff done .

I’m taking notes, I have one to build soon.

It always amazed me that they would put opne gun positions on top of a main turret, and on this one the poor guys on teh lower turret are really going ot get blasted if teh other guns fire.

probably need capnmac for this , but I always assumed those guns were automated . you would need some serious ear protection otherwise , [hdphns]

I will be watching for your build mate .

Beautiful work, as usual! The Queen Elizabeth class ships are among my favorite! The first one I built was when I was six, building the old Eagle Wall/ Pyro HMS Warspite. By six and a half I had graduated to the Airfix HMS Warspite in 1/600. (I am turning 68 in less than two weeks.)

Bill

thats a coincidence , I turn 66 in a bit over 2 weeks .[:D] ,

Great work so far. I started building my Academy Warspite kit just before you, but you have made much more progress than I have. Your PE and paint work is looking wonderful.

Question, are you building her in the 1943 configuration? Those 20mm tubs on A and Y turret were added in 1943.
