Academy F-15 W.I.P.

This is my start of the Academy 1/48 scale F-15C/D, which I happen to be modeling as the D.

So far just the cockpit, and it’s done OOB(as will the whole aircraft).

Looks like you are off to a great start. Thanks for sharing! [tup]

No real point in doing any more pictures at this point, but I’m in the process of gluing the fuselage halves together. I’m doing them one small section at a time, to keep the sides aligned. I had to reinforce the intake trunks with bits of styrene sheet. Unfortunately there are open spots and huge gaps(1/4 inch or more) where there shouldn’t be. At least they are internal, but unless taking a close look you can’t see them. Seems to be just a bit of bad engineering, if I ever do the kit again I’ll correct these area’s. I took steps in the nose with reinforcing to keep the halves together, as each side is essentially a huge butt joint. the nose to the fuselage is also a big butt joint(ok no jokes here please LOL). So I’ve made “locators” to line the nose up with the rest of the fuselage. Nose weight is provided by 6 fishing sinkers. I had no way to get them all the way up in the front so they are right behind the cockpit.

There isn’t enough ordinance in the kit or tanks to fill the stores up, but I have the Tamiya F15E in the same scale, so I’ll be using some of it’s ordinance and tanks on this bugger to help fill it up. The Tamiya kit I picked up as a non repairable glue bomb free of charge. I’m just glad I’m getting some use out of it.

All the F-15C/D carried was 1 Centerline tank 4 Sparrow Missiles or 4 AIM 120 AMMRAMS and 4 AIM 9 Sidewinders. The only time it would carry 3 external tanks was for ferrying the aircraft overseas. And it would carry 2 external fuel tanks on the inboard pylons for CAP missions. And I can tell you that you can also add FAST tanks(Conformal fuel pallets). BTW the F-15 C/D are Air superiority fighters while the F-15E was only used for strike missions so the ordinance in the F-15C/D kit is enough for what you need.
