Academy 1/72 P-40 Completion pics

This one has been a long time coming, It was finished in May but since then I have not had a working computer or camera at the same time so I never was able to post pictures. I cant say that really anything gave me any problems on this one other then the nose decals being thick as credit cards. All in all it was quite a good kit. Comments welcome

Way to go, Chris. I remember back when you started working on this one. Looks good.

Thank you john, seems like quite a while ago doesnt it. I honestly cant believe How much work I have been able to get done seeing how Im newly married, a new father and dealing with summertime in the home warranty industry (I swear if I hear one more person from arizona scream at me about their air conditioning not working because they cant handle the heat. I MEAN COME ON WHY WOULD YOU MOVE TO THE DESERT IF YOU YOU CANT DEAL!)sorry little venting going on there

Looks good from here. Nice little kit.

Regards, Rick

Always liked those Aleutian 'Hawks, very distinctive. Nicely done as usual, TLP!

Great Job, I just got that kit last week. My Dad was in alaska during the war and I have several pics he took of P-40s there(None with the Tiger on the nose) But I plan one building as one in the pics. Anyway great job, Good Hunting, G.W.

The only warnings I have are like I said before the nose decals being quite thick and stubborn, also there are two peices that sit in the nose that are just a pain to get in straight and flush. its a great little kit. good choice

Good job on it! How’s the baby?

Very well done. I love those markings.[tup]

Very nice I build this same kit before I started my new job on the island they have pictures of P-40’s that flew from here in the HQ building I like the Academy kits nice fast easy builds that look good J

Nice build, Chris! Academy is notorious for thick, stubborn decals, and it looks like you did a good job of getting them to lay down nicely.

Regards,

Mark

m1garand - Thanks, its funny I thought my spitfire was better but this is the one im getting all the congrats on. The baby is good, I never thought somebody opening their eyes and looking around would be milestone in my life but boy is it

TANGO 1 - Thank you, Ya I liked that they were different then then the standard shark nose.

urich - Did you have the same problem with the two peices in the nose sitting flush, such an easy little kit drove me insane for a couple hours. I ended up carving out part of the inside of the fusalage to give it somewhere in the nose.

Mark Joyce - Oh ya I have done a couple of academy kits and have a couple more to do. it takes a lot of decal set, a little bit of future and a lot of patience. If not careful they can ruin the look of such good kits. I have said it before, its almost like academy puts crappy decal in the box to make them worth there cost. because with the level of detail on the kits, if they had really nice decals you would feel like you were stealing them for $9

Yes I remember yes I had the same problem with the nose the big problem was the strip behind the cockpit would not fit right yours go’s all the way round I cut mine so it stopped at the bottom of the wings J

ya I realized afterwards that it probably shouldnt have gone all the way around, o well ya build ya learn

That kit is next on my airplane list. Yours looks very good, especially the decal work around the nose, which is what was scaring me a bit … especially after a couple of unpleasant episodes with the decals on my 1/72 Academy P-51. Still trying to get one of the national insignia to lay down flat, I may have to resort to scalpel surgery for that one!

Well done, Chris! A good looking job on the "hawk! That’s two big wins for you now! Glad to hear that you. Pink_Chevelle and the little one is doing well!

I use MM decal set to get in sitting where it needs to be, then I bust out the container of future and a brush and brush the future down until that thing is coated in acrylic and couldnt curl up if it wanted to
