Academy 1:72 Me262A-1a

Just completed this tonight for an upcoming review…the Academy 1:72 Me262A-1a. MRC brought one kit with them to the 2007 National Convention, and were kind enough to give it up to IPMS/USA for a review. Somehow, it managed to fall into my hands…ahem. Anyways, a fantasic kit with tons of decal options including not one, but TWO captured “Watson’s Whizzer’s” birds. Very cool…! Here’s a preview:

Excellent build. Looks like a great kit. How were the decals ?

Regards, Rick

I’ve been looking forward to the release of this kit (major understatement [8-]) The gun cover piece looks like it was a difficult fit, was it? …and yes, how where the decals? Are they getting any better?

Thanks Rick, and Razor…as always, your comments are appreciated!

The cannon bay cover was a bit difficult to fit…almost as if the piece itself was molded slightly too “short”, in terms of curvature. It took a fair amount of clamping to get it to look as it does. As far as the decals, I’ve followed Academy’s progress closely over the past 2 years with regards to this issue…they’re much better than they had been at that tiime. I used Mr. Mark Softener, which wasn’t quite “hot” enough. Next time, I’ll use Solvaset.

You can read the rest of my thoughts on the kit shortly on IPMS/USA’s review page…the bottom line, however, is you’ll really enjoy this kit!

Cheers,

James Kelley

That is a nice build. I do have a thought though. I’ve come back and looked at this 262 several times, and maybe it’s just me, but it looks like there is something odd about the shape of the canopy. Like the opening part is crowned a bit too much right at the top front.
