I just picked up this Storch at Hobby Lobby for 6 bucks.Any hints or tips would be welcomed.
Yeah follow the instructions on the sheet inside and use glue [:D]

OK so it is a simple kit with no tricky parts right?
I haven’t bought or built the Academy version of the Fi-156, but have built both the Airfix and Heller kits. Both of those kits share a common fault, the main landing gear is molded in the extended position (in flight) rather than the static (ground) position. You need to shorten both kit’s MLG by 4" to 6" to get the proper “sit” for a plane on the ground. I want to say that I read somewhere the Academy kit suffers from the same problem but can’t remember where I read it (me memory gets worse every day - when you get old the memory is the second thing to go - and I can’t remember what the first thing is!)
I don’t remember any big problems with the kit. Other than sparse detail in the cockpit, it is a good one. I would like to have seen a pilot figure, but that is about all I would add.
It comes with 2 engine options and I think 2 or 3 decal options, which is nice.
Yes I noted a radial engine on the parts tree that the instructions say is not used.I think that the other manufacter of the plane( Morane) used a saimson radial in place of the German Argus.
You’re right, the French version used a radial, which looks a little funny on it, I think.
I realized after I posted the last reply that I have a different kit. I’m sure all the parts are the same, but mine was just the plane, no kuebelwagen. There may be different decals as well.
the only thing i didn’t like (and it is not the model itself) because of the real planes design the caopy frame is intergrated into the sructure of the plane ,and because of this when i put it together yrs ago it was kinda flimsy on the top
I just finished building this kit, and both the Storch and Kubelwagen went together like a charm. No fit problems to speak of.
Add a little more detail to the cockpit, and take your time masking all that greenhouse, and you will have a lovely model(s).
Cool Mike! Can you post a pic of your storch?
Ditto Mike’s reply. This is a cool little kit that comes out well. I built it a few months ago. I recived my Tamiya 1/48 Storch yesterday! [party]
Well I guess I know what my next project will be!
I’d love to, but my ancient digital camera won’t cut it for such extreme closeups, and is need of replacing asap. Get the kit, and you’ll readily see what we are talking about.
Academy provides some of the best kits for the low price range they generally cost IMO.
Well I have the kit as I posted a pic of it when I started this thread!I look forward to building it and may get the 1/48 Tamiya version.
This is the version I will model.Luckily it is the version that comes in the kit.
Well after a long delay I am finally resuming progress on the Storch.Man!The cabin glass is a pain!I secured it with white glue and after painting I will remove the glass and peel[-off the blue masking tape.I may secure the kit glass with epoxy to avoid frosting the glass while still mainting structural strength(The wings attach to tabs on the cabin roof.
I gave it coat of Desert Yellow yesterday.Next I will paint the underside of the wings and horizontal stabilers light blue.I will then paint the dark green cammo pattern.
It looks like its coming along. How do you like the kit? ART
Well, apart from the somewhat tricky 6 piece cabin,I think it is a good kit.Pretty well detailed and the fabric texture on the wing is very well done.
Okay I laid down the cammo today!Next up I have to mask and paint the white rudder and theatre ID Fuselage band.
