Heres my completed Academy 1/72 F4F-4 Wildcat. Not the best Wildcat kit out there (the new Airfix kit will blow most 1/72 Wildcats away) but I’m happy overall with the results. The canopy had some nasty blemishes so I went the Pat Hawkey route and painted it black. The markings depict Marion Carl’s aircraft from the Guadalcanal campaign in September of 1942. The camera is making the finish look way bluer than it should!
Thank you for the kind words.I’m a bit of a old school modeler. My weathering / shading is done post painting with pastels. I haven’t learnt the art of pre-shading yet but will someday… Douglas
Looks fantastic especially with the stand. Did you buy the stand separate, or did it come with the kit? I like how the build is nice and clean, very awesome. I’ve never seen black Windows, that is very cool.
I am estatic to see your work for the first time. You’ve supported my projects through and through, now I get to do the same for you. Thank you for the posting!
Thank you for the kind words and support Toshi. The stand was part of the kit and works quite well. I built this kit once before back in the late 1990’s.I remember then how fragile the landing gear were and decided to build it gear up this time around. My camera (smart phone) makes the finish look much more blue than it really is. Currently trying to decide what to work on next!
Thank you for the kind words Gary.I tend to build a fair amount of older kits, many with minimal (to none in some cases) cockpits. Painting the canopy panes creates a nice effect IMO and is a time save too on these old kits.
