Academy 1/72 F-8E

Anyone have any info on this future release? I’m currently doing Revell’s and also have Hasegawa’s and Esci’s and was hoping that Academy is using a new tool up to today’s standards.

Go to www.academy-europe.de they have what I presume is a picture of the box art as well as 4 or 5 pictures of a built up model. If it is the actual model that is being released it’s going to be nice.

Supposed to be an all new tooling and should be nice. Scheduled for release in the 2Q about the same time as their all new 1/72 P-38 Lightning.

I’ll be getting both. And I’m glad it’s a new tooling as the Esci and Revell kits are just bad copies of the Hasegawa kit.

Hobby Link Japan has the kit, finally woohoo, it’s almost here

Academy’s long-awaited Crusader is here! Fans of “The Last Gunfighter” have waited years for a new, state-of-the-art 1/72 kit, and here it is! Incase you are wondering, YES it has been worth the wait! This kit features fine recessed panel line detail, realistic raised cockpit and wheelwell detail (decals also included for the cockpit panels), intake trunking, a wing that can be displayed in the raised position (a first in 1/72!) with full detailing in the bay under the wing, an optional position speedbrake (another first!), beautifully done landing gear and a selection of armament that includes 4 Sidewinders, 4 twin-pod Zuni rockets, 2 MERs and 8 Mk. 82 “Snakeyes”. Optional pylons are included for the fuselage stations for either single or dual Sidewinder/Zuni pod carriage. Markings are for 2 USMC Crusaders (sorry Navy!): DN 7 of VMF(AW)-333 “Fighting Shamrocks” and WT 14 of VMF(AW)-232 “Red Devils”. In yet ANOTHER wonderful touch, the very complete decals include the thin yellow canopy framing seen around the plexiglass on these aircraft! An outstanding and HIGHLY recommended kit for all Navy jet fans.

Now if only they will do a new tooled kit of an A-5 Vigilante to replace the old Hasegawa one.

Thanks for the link derekms.
wow some great models, the F/A-18 was awesome.
Hmmm maybe I should save up for that F-8E it looks interesting.

No No No fellow 1/72 modelers… Academy needs to do a new F 80… Lord yes the airfix kit is older than dirt…

[#ditto] on the F-80, Need a new tool kit in both 1/72 & i/48.

There needs to be a few new tools for post war jets. A decent Mig-15, La-15, FJ fury, F3H demon, Phantom I. At least Tamiya did a Skyray and Fujimi did the F7U.

Hey Plum,
Emhars’ FJ-4 Fury and F3H are actually quite nice, as is Siga’s FJ-1 and MPM’s FH-1, all better than the rareplane vacs that preceded them. How about an FJ-3? Except for a $$ resin kit and a vac conversion, none ever existed in 1/72 scale.

I’m lazy and spoiled and buy mostly Hasegawa, fujimi and academy. I do have the emhar kits and the siga fj, they don’t quite cut it, at least without lots of work. Lots of sanding and rescribing in my future on those. Probably do the demon first as I have aftermarket decals and it looks like the least work. Plus they’re cool!

Steven’s International is finally showing the Crusader as in stock!!!
It will soon be available for mass consumption.[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D] Yes I have been waiting ever so impatiently for this kit.

If the price were a bit better I’d buy 3 right off the bat. My budget is tight lately though.

Hey plum,

I just ordered two from hobbyland in Indiana, They just got them in today. They are selling them for 15.90 which isn’t to hateful considering how good they look in the pictures I’ve seen of it.

I broke down and bought one in a local store. I’ll have to look up Hobbyland, that’s a good price. Astounding kit though. I love academy’s sharp but small panel lines and now their rivets are smaller and look less like the craters that rivets tend to be in most kits. Now I need to toss that revell F-8 I’ve been working on and start a real F-8. The real challenge comes when I try that RF-8G conversion.

Can’t wait to pick up one, or three!!

F-8 fans: I’m curious–can you tell me what it is about the F-8 that makes you so rabid about this aircraft? Not that one shouldn’t feel that way about the plane,
because it was a great old bird. But while so many modelers are attracted to the newer & slicker F-14’s, F-15’s, F-16’s & F-18’s for obvious reasons, why go
for the Crusader? What’s the attraction?

Actually, my interest isn’t limited to the F-8. One of the reasons I do 1/72 is so that I can do multiple version of several aircraft. F-4B, F-4D, F-4E, F-4G, F-4J, F-4N, F-4S, RF-4B and RF-4E, and that’s just what I have. Still need to get some F-4’s. Then there’s F-14’s of VF-84 in high-vis and low-vis, VF-32, VF-111… The obsession is universal. Then on to wildcats, I’ve done Thatch’s plane and I have to do O’hare’s a a couple others… You get the picture.
