The more recent stuff has a common, motorized hull for multiple tank kits. They have rubber band tracks as well. More of an unassembled toy.
Some of the older Academy 1/48 armor are copies of the old Tamiya motorized tank kits (like the S-tank).
Even older Academy 1/48 scale armor kit were reboxed Bandai kits.
Sounds like you may want to check out Tamiya’s newer offerings, though Bandai was great in its day. Also Skybow (now AFV Club) has some outstanding Tigers.
Agreed with everyone here, my son got one as a gift. Makes a great toy, but not necessarily a great model for the ‘serious’ modeler.
All the Tamiya kits look really good to me. I’d buy them, but I don’t think I can quit building 1:35. My planes are all 1:48 and my armor 1:35. If 1:48 would have been popular 10 years ago, everything I have would all be the same scale.
I knew of Tamiya 1/48 range, just saw Academy much cheaper and wondered, thanks guys

Be careful with Tamiya’s old 1/48 scale range. They did some motorized toy kits as well. I think the only one duplicated is the T-34/76. Others were more modern like the M60, M60A1, M60A2, Type 74, Jagdpanzer Kanone, S-tank, and SU-100 (or was it an 85?).
Ok, thanks Rob and everyone.

I would not suggest the Academy 1/48 series of kits. Ok, so many here probably know that I’m no lover of 1/48, but lo and behold, when I started armour, I started with a bunch of 1/48 academy kits as learning experiences. Common hulls, greatly lacking detail. They are toys, and not models.
