Hi
Just wondering if anyone has built or has heard anything about Academy’s Wirbelwind kit. I have an oppurtunity to pick one up for a reasonable price and have been looking for something along those line s for a diorama-in-progress.
I know Tamiya make a nice model of this vehicle, but here in Australia it is three times the price!
Any comments would be great; I am just restarting modelling after a 6 year hiatus, so forive any ignorance!

I think its the old Tamiya kit from when Academy used to copy the Tamiya moulds
Kit prices here in the Philippines are also like that. But I recently bought an Academy Panzer IV H for 1/3 the price of Tamiya’s. I asked for it here in the forum and -Maj. Rob- replied and said it’s more or less the old Tamiya kit just like what Captain Caveman said.

Welcome, phroosh. We’re glad to have you with us. And welcome back to the modeling world. You’ll find out there are many changes over the last few years.
I’ve heard the same about the kit. The new Tamiya kit has the same hull as the old kit (a PzIV) but a new turret, from what I understand. It’s so much a copy of the old Tamiya kit, it has the same picture on the boxtop!!

Thanks to the forum, I now know what to expect, more, or less from the kit, as I have some experience with older Tamiya kits, and i think for the price it will be worth the extra effort. I hope to let you know how it turns out!
It is good to be back in the hobby, (although I am yet to make the 650km round trip to pick up the bulk of my stuff!) and is great to see that my beloved FSM is not only still going, but alive and well on the Web!
