AC Moore to close its stores

This might not impact you, but AC Moore’s parent announced that they will close all of its bricks-and-mortar locations:

Along with Michael’s and HobbyLobby, AC Moore was one of the trio of arts & crafts stores whose offerings included tools and supplies for scale modelers. Personally, though, when I had to go to one of the three, I preferred Michael’s and HobbyLobby to AC Moore.

Ack, that sucks!!! The local AC Moore and Michael’s are great for picking up the 49-99 cent acylic paint I use for bases.

A.C. Moore was my favorite. Great coupons and nice stock of spray paints. None of the trio had any models I needed though. Wife loved Michaels. A.C. Moore was 2nd choice.

From what I can observe, where there was a Michael’s, AC Moore had a location relatively nearby to compete.

From the story, it sounds like Michael’s is interested in acquiring some of the Moore locations.

Is AC Moore a regional store? I’ve never seen one or heard of them is why I ask.

That said, my hometown is almost famous for being the last in the country to get ‘new’ retail, restaurants, etc, so what do I know?

I see them up here in MD and VA, but I’m not sure about other areas.

Not sure if I ever been in one,we got Hobby Lobby and Michael’s anyway.

Also went to my local Hobbytown last Friday for supplies,still pretty good.Asked about ordering kits,no problem,so I’m glad they are there.

Good question.

I knew that its parent company is headquartered in New Jersey, but I had to look up its market area. It’s an East Coast chain, with stores from Maine down to Florida. I guess they never broke out of that region.

I’ve seen an update confirming that Michael’s has bought the leases to around 40 Moore locations. I haven’t seen whether those locations are in areas where Michael’s doesn’t yet have a presence, but my guess is that they’re likely to be.

AC Moore really was small! They had 141 stores. By comparison, Michael’s has around 1200. No wonder many of you haven’t heard of AC Moore. 141 stores from Maine to Florida. You’d really have to live here in the East to have seen one, and even then, it’d be easy to miss one.

Nothing near me, IN or FL. You’re right, I guess that’s why I hadn’t heard of them.
