Absolute Newbie - Lots of questions

Hi everybody

I’m not a modeller, but I want to find out if there is any way to start creating parts for miniature skateboards, or possibly skate-parks [:I] I hope you don’t mind!

Here is the best picture I could find of a regular finger skateboard (it doesn’t really show all the parts that well, but they are based on the real things)

I was wondering what parts would be recreatable… without having to spend loads of money on heavy machinery [:p] But also usable, so the parts could sustain actual use [:)]

One person has said I could make the “deck” (the main body that you would stand on) from sticking 2 pieces of plywood together with woodglue, making a wooden mould for the bent nose and tail shape then clamping it and cutting around the edges. Would that be a good way to go about that part? I don’t know how I could put designs on it, though…

Here’s another picture

And here are some “rare” trucks, maybe there is some way to convert them

I hope I haven’t wasted too much of your time [:I]
Thanks

Welcome to the Forum Jobe. I’m a modeler & don’t know anyhing about skateboards. You might get some ideas for artistic designs & painting over on the Painting Forum.

Regards, Rick

Howdy, Jobe!
Welcome to FSM.

I don’t know anything about skate boards either, but a friend of mine makes and sells 1/6 scale surfboard models. He carves the shapes out of wood, makes an RTV mold, and casts the models in resin. He puts them in a frame with text describing the board and giving its history, and sells 'em for a coupla hundred bucks a pop! They’re quite beautiful.

Don’t know if that helps you at all, but at least it included the word “board!”

Good luck!

EDIT: A reread of your post tells me that you already have the board, and just need the parts. And a skate park!
Sorry!
Check out the “Dioramas” forum here for ideas about the park.
Maybe the “Autos and Motorcycles” forum coulf help you with the trucks and other parts.

Again, good luck! [:D]

Hello Jobe, Welcome to the forum. You might consider using harwood veneers for your decks. You can buy them from companies like Woodcraft. They are very thin pieces of wood that are flexiable. Build a two part form out of wood that can be made by drawing a line on a block of wood that matches the profile of the deck. Cut along that line with a bandsaw or scrollsaw. Take about four layers of veneers cut to fit your wooden form, “buttered” with 2-part epoxie glue. Place a sheet of wax paper on the bottom half of your form, then the stack of veneer pieces, another sheet of wax paper, and finally the top half of your form. Clamp the whole thing together very tightly and allow the epoxie to cure. Take the piece from the form and trim it to shape.

[#welcome] You may find many techniques to help you here, Good luck!!

Welcome to the gang Jobe…

Hate to tell ya… but if that is a mini skateboard as in 1/6… you ARE a modeler haha… I would check out both the diorama topic for the skate park part… maybe even the ship section as some of them deal in laminate woods…

Welcome!!!

[#welcome]to the forums.

Thanks for the warm welcome! [:D]

I am thinking of “cold-casting” the trucks… what do you reckon? Any tips? [:)] Also, would they come out just “looking” like metal, or actually have a metallic feel to them?

Thanks
