AAVT/LVT-7A1

Hi!

I am building the Academy LVT-7A1 Amtrac. I plan to color it in South Korean camouflage so I can use the decals that are included in the kit.
I tried searching for pictures in the net but have failed to do so.

Does anyone know what colors are used to paint the ROK AAVT-7A1?

Thanks[:)]

Hey there, Ed.

From the photos Ive seen of ROK AFVs, I believe their colors are similar (if not the same) as the MERDC scheme previously used by the USArmy. Some Tamiya kits (like the M-151 MUTT) which feature the MERDC scheme provide for color mixtures. You might wanna check em out.

Hope this helps.

Ed

I think that the Acadamy kit is for a LVTP7 not LVTP7A1 despite what the box and some suppliers state. The kit is a modified Tamiya LVTP7A moulding with the hull backdated to the earlier model. (The figure that comes with the kit is a dead giveaway as to it’s origin.)

The most obvious difference is that the LVTP7 had the circular headlight assembly in the hull, whereas the LVTP7A1 had a rectangular assembly in cut outs right at the top of the hull plate.

There were other less noticible changes, see http://afvinteriors.hobbyvista.com/lvtp7/lvtp7a.html for a good history and detailed interior pics.

ROK have around 60 old LVTP7’s and have built 42 AAV7’s as a joint production venture to replace them in front line duty. See:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/rok/marine-corps.htm

The kit you are building will be of an older vehicle and pics will be hard to come by as every pic I could find was the later up armoured version. Therefore, paint it what looks right to acadamy’s own specs, and who is going to prove you wrong[:p]

Are you building OOB or did you succumb to madness, like I did with my Tamiya LVTP7A , and super detail it?

Thanks for the helpful info.
I’m still building out of the box but am slowly catching up with the madness of datailing.
