I am about to start working on Hasegawa’s 1/48 Zero, but I am wondering about the proper color for the cockpit. All the instructions say is “cockpit color”. Not very helpful! If someone could help me, I’d really appreciate it!

Wingnut, it will depend upon the model of Zero you are building. There were slight differences in the later model airplanes built by Mitsubishi and those built by Nakajima, but they are so slight that you need not worry about them.
On the Model 52 (A6M5) and later airplanes, the interior is an olive green. Mikesh in Japanese Aircraft Interiors calls the Mitsubishi color Munsell 10Y 4/4 and Nakajima’s 2.5GY 4/2.
The area under the windshield and the rear canopy would be the same as the exterior color.
Absolutely the best place for info on all this stuff is J-aircraft, http://www.j-aircraft.com/
You will find just about all the info you need there.
Thanks a bunch! I figured the cockpit would be some sort of blue-green, but I wasn’t really sure. I think this kit is of one of the Nakajima-produced planes. I’ll check out the website.

Hey Kevin,
You can purchase Tamiya XF-71 Cockpit Green (IJN), this the standard cockpit color for Japanese Zero.
