A6M5 engine cowling color

My Hasegawa 1/72 A6M5 is almost finished, I left the engine assembly for the last, but I’ve noticed that no paint number is given for painting the interior of the engine cowling… what color to use?.. the same as the cockpit or the same as landing gear?.. or maybe natural metal?..

I was in the same spot as you so I just left it in NMF, I don’t know if it’s right but no one has noticed one way or the other!

I asked a similar question last week. Pix said he sed the blue/black inside and out.

Pix is correct. Pix is always correct. Listen when he speaks.
I use a mixture of 70% semi-gloss black (MM acryl) and 30% Blue Angels Blue and it it gives a great color that just catches the blue where the light hits it, but otherwise looks black.
While on the subject of Zeros, if I might throw in my 2 cents, I just finished one of the ancient Tamiya 1/48 warhorses, the A6M3 Type 33 (the whole series up to the A6M5 Type 52, the most numerous of Zeros, are still very good kits at 12-14 bucks retail and are great starting points for detailing), and I am in the middle of a detailing job on a Hasegawa Type 22 (which, oddly, came out after the clipped wing Type 33, and that’s about the only difference). I would say that given the difference in price, even with a few panels to scribe (the old Tamiya kits are part scribed, part raised), the old Tamiya kits are a better value. I had to build two Zeros because they had to be shown side by side to compare what few markings we get in Zero kits, as far as stenciling and stripes, and how many were REALLY on a Zero. Let’s just say those Japanese back then really had a thing for putting a stencil or a data plate on everything that wasn’t nailed down, and a number of things that were.
BTW, Crockett, that’s one nice Zero you’ve got there. Tell us about it.
