I painted the winter camo on the Ju 87 today. Shortly thereafter, my Stuka, behaving like the prototype, made a scale 144’ dive to the floor below. The left cannon was sheared off at its mounting, which is the worst of the damage. I can probably repair it, but the mounts are PE. But, here’s the camo anyway.
Looking great Pix!
If I hadn’t seen the progress pics from before I would have guessed that the greens were painted over the white, but it would be nearly impossible to blend the lines with different colors, eh?
Is your process the way the Germans did theirs originally?
Which paint did you use for the white? I use Floquil’s reefer white, myself.
Can’t wait to see the others!
stinger
Looks great Pix! Great cammo job. How hard to fix the cannon do you think it’ll be?
pix looks great[:)] did you paint the markings or cover up the decals?
Jason
i like that pix. dont feel alone my friend. i have very thick “carpenters” hands and sometimes i feel like i have 2 left ones. ive been on the floor many a time scouting for misc. 1/48 scale parts that i droped. those things can end up in some of the strangest places! anyway, thanks for your very concise step by step instructions for loading up pics on this forum. you have great looking models from what ive seen. your crashed one looks better than my non-crashed models! later.
p.s. what kind of airbrush do u use?
I echo my sentiments from SHF, Pix. Lookin’ groovy, hope she’s back to code one real soon.
Fade to Black…
I love that camo scheme Pix!!! I too was wondering what AB you use?!
Thanks so much, stinger, Madda, Jason, saltydog, blackwolf, & kik36.
stinger - the temperate scheme of RLM 70 & 71 was applied first, with Model Master flat white sprayed free hand over it. Here’s what she looked like before:
Madda - the places where the PE broke are VERY small. Its gonna be tough to align it, have enough area for CA, and not have the CA show as blobs. But I’m gonna try.
Jay - I scanned the decals, adjusted levels & saturation in Photoshop, & printed it. I then took drafting tape (the kind I use is translucent), placed it over the markings that I needed, & cut masks with a fresh #11 blade.
saltydog - I try to build them solid. If there’s one thing I don’t like, its a flimsy-feeling model. Mine fell because I currently have nerve damage in my right hand, and I can’t grasp things too well right now.
blackwolf - I’m sure gonna try. I’m too far into this one to turn it into a burned out wreck (its NOT an LTD kit, after all !) [(-D]
kik36 - I use a Badger 150 airbrush. I’ve had it for about eight years, and I don’t feel the need to even look at another one. I’m really satisfied with it.
Thanks again, all. I was so disheartened when this happened, and your kind words have restored a smile to my face. You’re ALL the best ! [bow][bow][bow][bow][bow][bow][bow][bow][bow][bow]
hey pixilater[:)],
thanks for sharing the pics[8D][8D][8D]…i was looking forward to this one. and i haven’t been disappointed!!
perhaps your pilot forgot that these stukas weren’t fitted with dive brakes?![:0][B)][:p]
sorry to hear about your hand[V], i hope that it gets better[:)].
either way, don’t get too down, as you still make excellent lookking projects that are a pleasure for all of us to see!![:D]
re the camo, i guessed there would be some scanning/masking involved: as soon as i saw the colour profile you posted i thought, hmmmm, now that’s a bit of a tricky one!![}:)]
not sure if i could do that. i was thinking more on the lines of normal camo, future, decals and then maybe liquid mask over the decals, then the coat of white…do you think that would work or is that a bit of a non-starter?[V]
thanks once again for sharing the pics.
regards,
nick
WOW What else can I say? I’ve been building for 20+ years and I wish I could get a finish like that. Definately worth saving, my man. Really nice.
Another stunner!
What more can you.
Hope your hand mends soon, and the best of luck with the left cannon.
Karl
Sorry to hear about the dive… Hope you can fix it without too many troubles. Shame 'cause it looked real good so far!
Awesome flugzeug Pix!
That camo is topnotch, and in 1/144 scale…wow!
Regards, Dan
Good looking camo, Pix! I’m sure you’ll get the cannon back in shape in no time.
looks great pix .[tup][tup][tup]too bad about the battle damage…
however I’m sure the end result will be no less than stunning.
ps; could you post a link to your Ta 152 decals?Just me being curious.
Hey Pix…thats looking good, sorry to hear of the accident with it but at least it’ll fix.
Greg
What a beautiful piece of work. I have confidence in your ability to repair the damaged cannon mount. No great creation comes without a little pain [#oops]
Thanks, nick, FastEagle, Karl, dj, Dan, J-Hulk, obiwan, gregers, & Swanny !
Nick - That sequence will work if you apply Future over the decals also. The Future would have to be completely set to avoid the liquid mask from mixing with it. I’d use a low-tack tape instead of the liquid, but that’s just me.
Dan - the plane is a 1/48 Hasegawa kit. The “scale fall” of 144’ is 4’ in 1/48. My old eyes probably couldn’t even SEE a 1/44 Stuka.
obiwan - I’ll scan 'em & post them here later today.
Now I’ve got to get my Luftwaffe ground crew buisy fixing this bird. In 1/48 scale, its cheap to feed them. They work for crumbs !
Thanks again, all ! I’ll let you know how the “Damage Control Team” does.
Hey Pixilater, that camo looks awesome! Sorry to hear about the crash… hopefully your " ground crew " can take care of it. Thank you for sharing your progress with all of us!
Thanks, AJACKETSFAN !
obiwan - these are the decals that come with the DML kit. The same ones are included in the recently rereleased Dragon kit.
