A small mustang to decorate an even smaller cubicle *just about final pics*

This is my progress so far on an academy 1/72 P-51, a little project to distract me from the revell b-17 thats kicking the crap out of me. This marks my first time filling any seams and trying to make it more like a completed model rather than a glued together kit. Also my first time trying replicate the aircraft on the box rather than make an addition to my “no no thats how I wanted it to look” squadron. I must say it was a great little kit, with the exception of the nasty seem on the bottom it was a dream. As allways any constructive criticism very welcome and hoped for. thanks for your time everybody

Priest, you are inmproving! You might want to thin your paint a little bit before you brush it on, this makes the coats lay down a little better and hides the brush strokes. Keep building, you’ll get better with each one.

Looks good, Priest - I know what you mean about the “I did it my way” squadron - I used to have an entire airfleet like that! I have to say, this looks better than anything I could come up with - I’m very familiar with seams like that bottom one, where one side just seems to be determined to stick up higher than the other side.

RadMax, thanks for the thinning tip - while I plan on using an airbrush on large surfaces from now on, being able to brushpaint even a little better than I used to will no doubt come in handy in the future.

The plane looks great baby, the picures…suck. I should have taken them.

I have a bunch of models I built in the 60’s that are all done as part of “My Squadron”. I still like them but I guess peer pressure or weak will, whatever, has moved me to try to build models that more accurately depict a real example. I don’t get as far into it as some people seem to prefer, though. For me it is a little too restrictive, takes away some of my enjoyment. Anyway, I know I’m never going to get it right for anyone but me and I find that good enough. All my old ones were brush painted, then for a long time I used spray cans. Air brush? Never heard of one in those days. I never did master brushing paint on large surfaces, though. Just can’t do it. So I finally went through the pain of learning to use an air brush about 10 years ago.

haha, trying brush painting the tissue surface of a balsa model [xx(] Took about 3 and a half hours total painting. The paint makes the tissue sag and then you have to be carefull not to rip it. I did make two small holes that I had to patch up. It is a guillows P-51, it was a fun 2 month build and is hanging up now.

Those I have sort of mastered, well at least I have improved on my first effort, which was a J-3 Cub whose most glaring deficiency was having two left wings, a problem solved by simply glueing one of them upside down on the right side. Close enough for a 10 year old to go flying (in my hand) around the backyard in 1956! Still smell the lovely odor of the dope. It wasn’t long after that when I built the Revell box scale F-89, and did a less than creditable job of painting it silver with a brush. A sign of things to come.

Silver is still the hardest color for me to brush paint well (so I don’t try if it’s more than a sliver), so hang in there, Priest. And don’t let that Pink Chevelle get to you!

Looking good![tup]

Thanks for the kind words everybody, ive started using model masters and brush painting has become much easier. still working on it. Ive gotten pretty good at not getting bothered by Pink Chevelle, she lives in my house…enough said, she still lives here

I just stopped by to show you guys the other model Priest has accomplished…I think it is prettier then the plane but thats just my opinion. Love you Honey.

Congratulations, PinkChevelle and LastPriest!

why thank you. we will see which model turns out better

Oh, you know that I know that you know that I know that you know which one will turn out better!

almost done with her, I have to do some touch up on the underside of the nose cus I painted too much white(i knew i should have made a stencil of that nose decal), as well as a little bit of weathering. but all in all much better better then my first model which is that crappy lookin mustang right next to it.

Very nice job, LastPriest! I especially like the paint job on the nose - it’s different in a very good way.

The picture is a little out of focus. Is that a P51 B or the later D model? HAHAHAHAHA!

Soulcrusher

Baby your plane looks beautiful, and the pictures are excellent! Love You. [:X]

different? aww man I was trying to do exactly what the directions said…another failure [banghead] [censored] at least its in a good way tho [:D]

I think the guy who said it was different meant that it’s not a scheme he’s seen before. I know I’ve never seen that plane. Looks cool, better than your run-of-the-mill blue nose mustangs!! Good job, now keep building!!

Yes - that is what I meant. I’ve never seen a nose pattern like that before, and it looks great! One gets tired of the same old popular schemes after a while, and LastPriest, yours is appealing not only because it is so nicely done, but also because I’ve never seen anything like it before. Others may have, but I haven’t - and that’s a big fat plus in my book!
