A real"DICKER MAX "

Well , now I,m on the right forum.Hey , I got this nice kit of TRUMPETER,S " DICKER MAX ". I had asked for help on the general discussion forum and someone told me I would do better here.

The question I had asked was two-fold.One , did anyone know anything about this weapon? and two , Where could find tracks of metal for it?

The reason for the questions is this .It has been since the eighties and BANDAI,S beautiful little 1.48 scale beauties. You know , the ones with full interiors and engine compartments.

I got this weapon at the ALAMO SQUADRON / IPMS Show on FEBRUARY 18th in SCHERTZ,TEXAS(about five miles from SAN ANTONIO.) This was my “thank You” for signing up for I.P.M.S.

I have never heard of the " DICKER MAX " much knowing which chassis she was based on.I do know only two were built and one was lost on the RUSSIAN front second question solved.I don,t know where the second unit went.

The questionswere answered by the astute staff at KING,S HOBBY SHOP in AUSTIN , TEXAS .There it was right on the computer ! With the " KING TIGER" (early model) tracks on it. One question solved.

Now for the other question. Seeing little service , how were they painted and marked .Did it (the remaining unit ) get real dirty and filthy or did she hold back and stay on what passed for roads to get behind the lines. Was it a muddy ,gucky , mess or was it fairly clean? What color would,ve the thing been painted?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. TANKERbuilder-a ship guy .

The “Dicker Max” was fielded in summer of 1941/1942 or so. Panzer Gray with minimal markings would be the appropriate paint scheme. Considering how poor the road network was in the Soviet Union, the weathering options are make it dirty, dusty or muddy. All will work.

Here is the Wiki article on the “Dicker Max”

Fruil does a set of metal tracks for this. set 86.

Edit: Opps, sorry. My mistake, thats not the same vehicle. So not sure on the tracks then.

The Dicker Max was built on a Pz IV chassis while the Sturer Emil was the one on a Tiger-related chassis…are you sure you aren’t confusing those in your reference to the King Tiger tracks? Those wouldn’t be appropriate for either kit by the way…so I’m a little doubtful we are talking about the same kit as the guys at the Austin hobby shop pointed you to.

You would be looking for the Fruil set ATL-03 as the correct set for this vehicle. HTH! [B]

I managed to pick up a set of FRUILMODEL tracks. The set is ATL-05. The funny thing is they match perfectly with the plastic link tracks that TRUMPETER put in the kit, but, didn,t tell you how to assemble them.

I made sure that they matched because it,s a long lonesome drive back to AUSTIN to exchange anything,The tracks I wound up with are for the PZkfw-111/1V.

So far,so good. I think I will have fun with this thing, and that,s what I want to do.It,s been so long since I built any armor I am actually excited to be doing this one.The old MONOGRAM model of the M48-A2 is turning out to be a pain you know where.

On that one I have ground plastic away till I am blue in the face, and am still having difficulty getting it thin enough to open all the engine deck vent slots.I would say they were thinking TANK and decided to mold it thick enough to ward of small arms fire!

Anywhoo,I certainly thank anyone in advance for the help.I am taking my gifted laptop to OFFICE DEPOT to have it checked out and get the gear to go wireless off this unit of my landlord,s .That way there,s no problem if her daughter is on line, I still can visit. They said they could teach me how to post pictures of my stuff so youse guys can see it.Geez,68 years old and I am excited as a little kid.It will be a month though as I gotta do this on SOCIAL SECURITY so,main bill stuff comes first.

I know ,TMI .But I wanted ya,ll to know what I am working with here so,s ya,ll wouldn,t get peeved with me.I look forward to this learning curve being alive and well. It,s actually fun to be back building some armor too. sooo on that note, Catchya Later-----TANKERbuilder

Trumpeters "Dicker Max " is a nice kit. Take your time and enjoy it.Oh and pics are a must.LOL

I have run across a problem though. It seems no one makes BULLETS for this thing.WHY NOT,it,s a 105mm ain,t it? TANKERbuilder

There are 10.5cm ammunition sets available in resin or brass from different makers…you just have to know the right terms to look for them under. [;)] Try looking for leFH18 10.5cm ammo and you’ll get something clost to what you need (the DM was armed with a Kanone 18 10.5cm, not sure if that specific ammo is available or not).

So, how come “Dicker Max” gets through the “nanny-bot” here, but “Dick Tracy” gets censored???

Just wondering…

Because who ever put D I C K in the data base as a bad word didnt concider DICKER
