a question for wwi german a/c fans/experts, Dvii rocket armament ?

hi, folks !
i’m working on a fokker dvii, & i was wondering
if they were ever used as ‘balloon busters’, if so,
did they use leprieur rockets or something else ?
any pix of a dvii w/ rockets fitted would b much
appreciated…
thanx, as always !

Hey Frosty, In all of my studies of WWI German aircraft I have never seen a D VII with rockets. I could be wrong, but again, I have never seen anything of that sort. Cheers,
Eric

that’s what i thought…
couldn’t find any refs at all myself…
well, i guess i’ll have 2 withdraw it from the
‘attack aircraft’ GB, then…[xx(]
ignorance is not always bliss…
still a nice kit 2 build, tho’ !
thanx 4 the response !

who said you need rockets to be an attack aircraft. I’m sure that the D VII strafed some trenches and convoys from time to time. ( i know i would have!!! )

LOL !
u r rite, blkhkmatt !
i was so focused on making a balloon buster that i forgot
about some of the other roles played by attack a/c…
so it stays…
altho’ at the time the Dvii was introduced, the
strategy was mainly defensive… so i think the trenches they flew over
were filled w/ their own soldiers & i’m not sure those guys would have
appreciated a strafing from their own air force any more than at the hands of the
enemy !
thanx 4 the response !

As far as I know, German aircraft did very little experimentation with rockets. Most likely used incendiary bullets (developed in 1916 for attacking balloons).
