Hi everyone , I was browsing the net looking for images on some U.S. VIP helicopters and I came across this site , http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10068877
It shows a couple of SH-60F and SH-60I ocean Hawks and I was thinking of doing a VIP version in 1/72 scale as I have a Hasegawa SH-60B and a Italeri HH-60H Rescue Hawk in my stash but I’m not sure which version to use .
It does appear when looking at the Dragon 1/144 kits , that the Ocean Hawks only have a single window on the port side of the fuselage , unlike the Rescue Hawk which has a double window on the port side.
So my question is should I use the Hasegawa kit , for my VIP version ???
I greatly appreciate any assistance with my inquiry .
I’ve been doing some more research on the VIP SH-60I Hawk Helicopter and after having a closer look at Dragons assembly instructions ,
It now seems to me that the Italeri HH-60H Rescue Hawk would be a closer match .
The Dragon kit doesn’t show the ALE-139 Chaff/Flare dispenser’s or the HIRSS Exhaust covers fitted ??? But the weapons racks included in the Dragon kit are similar to the Italeri Rescue Hawk kit . Also it shouldn’t be too difficult to fill in part of the port side window with some sheet plastic .
So I guess I may have answered my own question , I did search around google and yahoo images for pic’s of a VIP Sea Hawk but only saw the dragon 1/144 kit images .
It will be a couple of weeks before I start some VIP Helicopters , so I may still yet come across some more images .
I was looking at building a Navy MH-60S “Knighthawk” and I was given this suggestion for conversions, since I think you also build mostly 1/72 it might be helpful.
UH-60L (can also use A or D kits but more work needed) —> MH-60S
I decided to buy the Dragon 1/144 Ocean and VIP Hawks .
The level of detail for such a small model is absolutly amazing . I’ve seen quite a few of these Dragon 1/144 kits in the hobby stores but had no Idea they were so detailed .
I bought the kit so I could get a better idea on building my 1/72 version but I must say these two little birds will definitly get built as well . I’m pretty sure my last visit to the LHS they had the other Dragon Seahawk kit with Navy Special Warfare markings , my next visit I’ll snap that one up as well .
