I have been seeing a lot aout group builds, but I have absolutely no experience with them how do they work, and would it be possible to start one?
Hi Jaypack55, A group build can be started by anyone, it generally goes like this: Post idea for GB to see if there is interest, State what type /scale model is to be, Any other build rules etc. Give folks a start and end date. The idea is that a group of you are all building the same subject, not the same model kit, this way you can use all scales and all levels of ability can take part and at the same time share your experiences on line and learn new tips and techniques from others in the group. Check out some of the threads in the GB forum. I’m part of the P-47 GB thats on-going at the moment and you should get the essence of what group builds are about. I hope my waffling helps! Darren.
[#ditto]Just what Tango said but I’ll add another thing, try joining a GB already set up with a topic that interests you so you can see what they are like and get to know some of the group. There seems to be a general group that kind of hangs out together in certain GBs.[:D]
One that might be of interest (if you build ww2 airplanes) is the Allied Aces GB I am moderating which starts in April.[tup] It is open to anyone desiring to build any aircraft an allied ace flew (which covers a very wide range of aircraft). Or if you are into armour I think a WW2 German Armour GB started recently, just ask the moderator if you can join.
I think you will find that in general the folks who frequent the GBs are very friendly, always helpful, more often then not quite humerous and always fun![8-]
so… how do you know when it’s over, do you share pics or something?
Yeah a start date and deadline are usually posted and when finished you post the pics of your finished aircraft. I find that group builds usually help decide which kit to build. Say you’re looking thru GBs and you see one of Atlantic Fighters. Say you’ve got a Wildcat in your inventory. Perfect opportunity to build it!
Don’t forget to post progress pics!
