A Proper P-40F/L and K . .

I’m just finishing a Hasegawa 1/48 P-40E. A very nice kit that will look good on the shelf. I have a few AMT P-40 kits in my stash, notably the P-40F/L. Eduard has released a new P-40E kit, which I expect is an excellent kit. What I would really like to see is an accurate, new tool P-40F/L and a P-40K. The Merlin powered P-40 was used extensively in North Africa and Italy, and some saw action in the south Pacific. It would be a real treat to see Airfix, Eduard, Tamiya, and/or Hasegawa release these in 1/48 scale. Plus, Robert Lee Scott flew the P-40K, so that would be nice to see boxed.

Nice, are you planning on posting any pictures of it when it’s finished?

Yes, I will be posting pictures when the P-40 is finished. The model will depict a P-40E of the 343rd Fighter Group.

There was a company that did come out with a P40K if I remember correctly. I believe that it was Amtech, or something similar.

It was AMT. They first released a N, K, and F.

These are their K and F kits that I built years ago

They later released an E and L under the AmTech label

Eduard will be releasing a K any day now in its new P-40 line.

Their E kit is pretty sweet. The K is an easy switch from an E, with the biggest visual difference being the shorter tail with the filet. Some F’s and the L had the lengthened tail, as well as being powered by the Packard Merlin instead of the Allison.

Amtech did one with a resin K tail conversion. You had choices to build it as an E if I remember correctly or as a K-5 with the conversion parts. It was a fun little build
