A pair of 1/48 Camels

The one on the left is the Eduard kit. On the right is the old Monogram/Aurora kit.

Sweeet little birds Mark. Very nicely done.

Regards, Rick

I like them. I didn’t realize there was that much wood around the cockpit of the Camel. They both look very nice, but was it more work to make the Monogram kit look as good as the other?

Really nice on both builds! I love the way you simulated the wood around the cockpits and on the props. Plus, the paint schemes on them are amazing! They’re really colorful birds. I’ve always felt that the aircraft of WWI have a lot of character, and I always enjoy seeing them here. Thanks so much for posting them…a very enthusiastic [tup] !!

Well done builds. The color scheme application looks sharp (and tedious)!

Nice pair of camels. What did you use to rig the plane with? Is that fishing wire or stretch plastic?

Thanks for the compliments guys. These are the first byplanes Ive made in about ten years. I’m now itching to do some more.

John- The Monogram kit is externally pretty much OOB. I did add some detail in the cockpit. It took a little filling and sanding where the struts meet the wing.

Sean- the rigging is done with EZ Line a veryfine elastic thread model railroaders use for telegraph lines.

Is that EZ line a monofilament thread, and do you glue it with CA? If so, it sounds like something I’d like to try on my next biplane.

Ruddratt- It’s not a monofilament thread its stretchy and won’t break. You attach it with super glue. Here’s a link to the place that sells it.

Greetings mkhoot; Nicely done on the Camels. Tell us more about how you tackled the “Sylvester” scheme you did for the Eduard kit (Cleopatera and her snake). I note its on the back cover of the Windsock Datafile. How does the E-Z line react to say Testors dull coat laquer spray?

Very nice work, I really like the wood grain.

Cheers [#toast],

Eric

mkhoot, thanks for the link. I am ordering mine today. Looks like great stuff and I can’t wait to try it.

Thanks The scheme was pretty straight forward I used the Eagle Strike decals. I primed with Tamiya white primer then I painted the back half with Floquil ATSF blue lightened slightly. I masked that off and painted the front half, gloss coated and decaled. The red square by the cockpit was cut from red decal film and applied. I haven’t coated the rigging I did it last but the EZ line Instructions say not to paint it because it stretches and the paint will flake off.

Very nice! I recently built a 1/72 Polikarpov I 153 Biplane and that was the first time I had tried rigging. I am now interested in doing more but I’m definately going to try that link first!
