A little help with some armor specifics, please

Got a few specific questions that need some answers from the experts here:

  1. Does anyone know where I can find detailed pics of the 106mm recoilless rifle? I Googled several keyword variations last night with no significant results. Anyone know any good links?

  2. Are there any aftermarket companies (like Rubio, Aber, etc.) that produce a brass or aluminum 106mm barrel or a complete gun in 1/35?

  3. What is the outside barrel diameter for the Browning .50 cal MG? I know it tapers, so a minimum/maximum or even an average is OK for my purposes.

  4. Lastly (thank goodness!), does any aftermarket company manufacture 1/35 brass, aluminum, or resin barrels for the 40mm Bofors?

Thanks in advance for all the help. I apologize if these questions have been asked previously. I don’t get a chance to visit this forum as frequently as I have in the past, but I still know where to go to get straight answers, and some pretty good advice!

#1 - At one time when I was looking up the Ontos I found some good tech data and references for the 106.

#2 - haven’t seen any, however AFV club and Dragoon both make excellat examples (the later has the mule with the 106 and AFV club has release a seperate kit of the 106 and TOW I think)

#3 - dunno

#4 - I think Lost Wax Brass Castings (collectors brass) used to make boffors as well as a bunch of other stuff. haven’t seen them advertized in sometime, so they might be DOA.

Thanks Rob → those are some good spots

  1. Don’t know

  2. Don’t know

  3. Don’t know

  4. Barel depot here: http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=BD35001

Haven’t seen the kit for myself, but AFV Club have a listing for an M40A1 Recoilless Rifle and TOW missile Launncher (Kit No is AF 35021)

Details may be found here

The M40A1 106mm recoilless rifle (RCL is the acronym) is actually 105mm but called 106mm to avoid confusion with tank ammo of the same caliber.

The 106mm recoilles rifle was made by Skybow and packaged in a plastic bag sold separately and also included with their M38A1C Jeep kit. Skybow sold off their 1/35 scale molds to AFV Club and AFV Club has packaged the Skybow M40A1 recoilless rifle along with the TOW missile from AFV Club’s Wiesel kit.

The 106mm RCL was also included in the Dragon M274 Mechanical Mule kit (3317). Eduard makes a PE set for the Mule & RCL: #35643.

Academy also included a 106mm RCL in their M151A1 kit #13003, but call the kit the M151A1 w/105mm recoilless gun.

Model Point does an aluminum turned barrel for the RCL, #3580.

Barrel Depot does a 40mm Bofors barrel, #35001

When I built my Marine M151 with the Verlinden 106 RCL I replaced tghe barrel with a piece of aluminum tubing. I don’t remember the size, but it matched up perfectly with the part from Verelinden.

Thanks Rob (and everyone else, too). I am already in the process of getting my order into Model Point. I am currently building and detailing the Skybow M38A1C, but was looking for a turned barrel to replace the plastic offering (The Skybow kit is excellent, btw). Turns out I also found barrels for the Tamiya M42 “Duster”. Looks like another super-detailing project for the near future!

Thanks again
