I have primed an FA-18 and painted it Blue Angel Blue with MM acrylic. I have primed with gray and painted the wing tips with MM acrylic Blue Angel yellow.
My problem is that the yellow is not covering properly. There is no depth after several coats.
Did you paint Blue over the primer, then the yellow over the blue? That combination is really bad. White primer works well, then the yellow, then the blue.
In general, lay down lighter colors first, then the darker ones. Yellow over a very light gray primer can work, yellow over a dark gray primer not so well.
Thanks everyone. I masked off the top coat of blue from the wing tips. So the yellow went over the gray primer. I’ll have to see about “stripping” then repainting with a white base coat for the yellow.
I agree. This is the most important step. Another way I discovered is airbrush in several light coats until you reach your desirable shade of yellow. Worked for me. Good luck…
