Thanks for the review. I’ve been meaning to get in touch with Iain this week to put in an order, but things have been hectic. Still, your review should give me that final motivation I need!
The AK stuff is pretty good and I had a blast trying new things with a new product. The best part of it is that these weathering products work great with the better and wider selection of MIG products.
For most of my weathering I will continue to use mostly MIG products and try to incorporate the AK with MIG products. This is something I also do with acrylic paints, I like to mix products in order to get the best result.
I’m a real sucker for all of these fancy ready made filters etc but the real thing ie oil streaking using tiny dots to represent rust/grimy water runs cannot be beaten - unfortunately I’m not great at doing them so some of these products are ideal for me.
I’ve got the Earth Wash - it’s ok but I can do better with pigments and a normal oil wash. It’s the ‘Streaking Grimes’ (Rust & Winter) that are VERY good imo.
I’ll be using them properly for the first time on my WIP Hetzer. I’ve experimentd with them and boy, does that Streaking Rust look superb!
A work of warning - if you fancy stocking up on these items I’d either buy or borrow the AK DVD to watch as if you go ahead and use these items without having seen the DVD you’ll won’t be using these products to their full greatness. The DVD is a definate must see!
