Tamiya released or is going to release the Pz.Kpfw.VI ausf…E Sd.Kfz.181 Tiger I initial production s.Pz.Abt.501 Tunisia 1942… the thing is that these tanks were painted with “captured” american paint… it seems like green… but what kind of green is it?.. maybe olive drab or faded olive drab, I don’t know… Another thing: I’ve got the Academy Tiger I early version that with Pfeifel filters… can I use this kit for making the Tunisia version… if yes… what kind of modification must I do?.. Thanks in advance.

Check out this book if you see it around. It has some details about tiger development, and the author demonstrates his building, detailing, and painting techniques. Many of which are useful when it comes to other AFV’s, but others are specific to Tigers. One of the author’s builds is a green Tunisian Tiger. The book may help you out. I borrowed it from a member of the local hobby club and I returned it about a year ago. I know these modeling reference books can be expensive, but you may find alot of useful stuff in it. Borrow one if you can.
The “Green Tunisian Tiger” topic is beaten at least every other week if not weekly. I’m surprised it’s not a sticky topic.
Searching this DG - among the many other armor DGs - will turn it up for you.
As for Academy’s Early Tiger I kit, it is too late to be the oft-seen Green Tunisian Tiger OOTB.
The exhaust shields and F/R fenders are different for the G-T-T, plus the G-T-T didn’t have the hull S-Minen or the turret escape hatch. You would need to back-date the turret, change front and rear fenders, and exhaust shields, plus remove the S-Minen mount points. There probably are some other trivials for OVE positions, etc, but whatever.
If you remove the S-Minen mounts and ditch the turret-mounted spare links, you can build an N. African Tiger I, just not an earlier G-T-T.
Look at this site for a good G-T-T build…
