A Great-Looking Aviation Documentary

Heya folks. Don’t get around these parts as often as I used to, but I thought some of you might be interested in this:

http://onesixright.com/

It’s a historical documentary of the Van Nuys Airport. It’s not finished quite yet, but it looks like it’s going to be really well-done! Since I learned to fly there, I was glad to see something like this being done.

Hope you all get some enjoyment out of it as well! Be sure to check out the trailer!

Hey Glenn,

Thanks for that link and info!! That looks like it will be very interesting, gotta get me one!! [:)]

Thanks again,
Take care,
Frank

Thanks for the link Glenn. Very interesting.

Regards, Rick

Hey there, Hooker! Do you happen to have a large-sized version of that skimming-cubbie pic?? I’d love to add that to my collection.

A little geography lesson: When you look at the “History” post on onesixright.com, north is to the left, west is on the bottom. The line on the left that’s at a slight slant is a railroad track. Balboa Boulevard is the curvy street at the very bottom (west) end of the picture.

Boy, the San Fernando Valley sure looked different in 1942! It was all farmland and agriculture then, even up to about 1960 or so. Nowadays, it’s not only suburban, it’s actually more urban!

By the way, CaptainBrazilia, what part of southern California do you live? I lived for many years in Van Nuys, just a few miles east of the airport. (I was born in Glendora, raised in La Canada Flintridge, so I’m an L. A. area native.)

Jim,

For most of my life, I’ve lived in the San Fernando Valley. Growing up, I lived Northridge (about an eighth-of-a-mile from where they finally put the '94 earthquake’s epicenter). Now, I live in North Hills. I’m about three miles north of the field and a mile east of the localizer centerline for runway 16R.

I added a link to my blog below if you’re inclined to learn more about me. Click the little “WEB” button below my signature.

I worked for many years in Northridge, at Frank’s Nursery and Flowers on Reseda Boulevard just south of Plummer.

I remember that Northridge earthquake. No damage at my apartment, although some of my collection of glass telephone-pole insulators was knocked to the floor. Amazingly. the nursery suffered little damage even though it was only a block from where those apartments “pancaked” and killed a bunch of people.

CAPT!!! glad to see ya man.

THANK YOU for your advise a while back, wish you were around more.
