there Panther G, Tiger 1, Tiger 2, Pershing, Sherman, any of them
Take your choice … their newer kits of the Panther and the Tiger are very well done.
Want to spend big bucks … their Famo and Dragon Wagon are both works of art in plastic.
And if you want to spend a little les money … both the Sherman and the T-34 are older kits that hold their own today.

A very good choice. References should be easy to find, and there are dozens of aftermarket extras for those, if you so choose.
Overall, I haven’t seen a Tamiya tank that I wouldn’t build. They’re all very good quiality, it’s just a matter of how expensive you want (i.e. the Famo and Dragon Wagon are well over $100 each!)

If you want an excellent kit right out of the box, go with the Marder III or IIIM, T-55, or Japanese Type 90. The Panzer IV , IIIL, and Stug IIIG ain’t too shabby, eitther!

The Panther A laxman refered to is the only Panther A made by Tamiya currently. They also make a series of asuf G’s. The A is an older kit, but there are a few add on kits out there you can use to spruce it up a bit, if you decide to do so.
I’m curious though, why did you specify a Tamiya kit? They are great kits, but there are some others out there that are pretty nice too (and many that aren’t). I’m not trying to talk you out of Mr Tamiya’s goodies, but am just curious.
btw. I’m just getting started on my Tamiya mid prod Tiger I and loving it. I picked it up on e-bay for $25 plus shipping. You might want to check out what’s available there before you pay the full retail of $44 for one.

Well to be honest i havent built armor and ive heard a lot about tamiaya armor kit i know that there are a lot of great companies out there and i know cause ive built planes from them and all of the hobby stores where i live are extreamly crappy and that i the biggest selection of models they have are tamiaya. But ill go to other web sites other than tamiaya.
Thanks, mk. Like I said, just curious. A lot of the new stuff from DML (Dragon) is pretty fantastic, and Academy has some nice stuff out there with full interiors. But you can’t go wrong with the newer Tamiya stuff. First tank I did is Tamiya’s Panzer II ausf F/G. It’s one of their older kits. There are certainly better, more acurate Pz II’s out there, but I had a lot of fun with it. Initial cost was less than $10. It’s taken me close to a year and a half and well over $100 to finish it, but I went WAAAAAAY over board on it. But like I said, I had a lot of fun building it and learned a bunch, which is the more important thing. One thing to be cautious about with DML is that they come with independent link tracks. They look good, but can be quite intimidating for a first build. I have the Academy Early Tiger I with full interior (as yet unbuilt!) and it comes with both individual link and vinyl tracks, so you get your choice. I don’t know if having both types of tracks in the kit is typical of their other stuff or not.

My first choice for an easy, but accurate kit would be the Early Production Tamiya Tiger 1. No individual track links there, and the box is packed with optional parts. On the other hand, the Late Tiger does not need to have all those rubber rimmed road wheels painted. Oh, and I think I saw the Early Tiger on sale at Great Models for 30 bucks!!!

Mine is in no way an expert opinion, but I think the Tamiya M4A3 Sherman kit #35122 would make a good kit to start with. I do have a little model building experience and found that Tamiya kits are easy to assembly and the fit is good. This kit would probably be fairly cheap and easy to build for a first armor kit.

Not sure if you have a preference of German or Allied. If your wanting to build an allied tank, I’d go with any of the T-34 kits or the early Sherman. For the Germans, just about anything, I really enjoyed the Tiger I late, but it has indy tracks. Maybe a King Tiger would be a preferable backup if you don’t want to fiddle with single tracks.
