I’ve been on a Luftwaffe kick lately, today completing my third consecutive kit featuring the swastika. It’s even to the point where I’m eye-balling the stash and although I still have 9 German aircraft to build, I’m wondering if I might be able to pick up a few more. I like building the Nazi warbirds.
Any way, I finished the first build in my Eye in the Sky group build, an Arado Ar196A-3, and my entry to the Battle of the Atlantic group build, a Focke Wulf Fw200C-4 Condor.
The Arado is the recent Italeri release in 1/48.

The Condor is the Trumpeter kit in 1/48 that I picked up from Sprue Brothers for roughly half what Trumpeter wanted for it. Couldn’t pass that deal.

Thanks everyone. The Arado is a decent kit. It’s probably barely more than a basic cockpit with what I’d consider rudimentary details, but it goes together well. And it does feature recessed panel lines and has reasonably good fit. I read somewhere that Tamiya actually has an Arado due out pretty soon, don’t know when but it might be worth the wait for what would likely be a more detailed kit (of course, that comes with the caveat that it’ll also come with a heftier price tag, although the Italeri kit is rather pricey also).
Nice to hear that its a good kit! I built the HiPM kit of the 196...what a P.I.T.A.!!! It came with resin and PE but the fit was horrible and the decals were useless...fragmented as soon as they moistened. Sprayed them with sealer...held together but didnt want to release from the backing paper. I could go on but I wont. Your birds look great. I have the Condor in my stash and thinking about starting it aftr seeing yours! I was reluctant in buying the Italeri 196 but think Ill get it now that I heard your review. Keep up the good work!
Most if not all of that detail on the Condor is recessed. It’s a good kit that comes with a mind-boggling number of parts, lots of little parts that are hard to hold. I lost one somewhere on the floor of my work area, which I suppose is pretty good considering the number of tiny pieces in this kit.
Well, the credit card just took another hit. LOL You’ve just convinced me to jump on that Condor kit. Hard to beat their price.
I picked up a Trumpeter Wellington MK III also. The two together plus shipping came out to be $10 less than the MSRP of the Condor. Woo Hoo, free kit. lol
For you guys that like the Arado 196, I think Revell Germany is getting ready to release a 1/32 kit sometime in 2010. New tooling will be used. That ought to be a fair size bird.
