A better way to paint jet exhausts?....

Since my early days building modern aircraft, I’ve painted the jet exhausts simply with gunmetal (inside and outside)… I think them could look nicer I if try another way to paint them. I want them to look “used”. Any advice should be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Regards.

José

use a little rust brown and gun blue but use the brown under the gun metal.

What about metalizer? How does that work anyway? I’ve never really used it but heard its good stuff.

Curtis: Any pictures of the effect this produces. I’m interested in this post, too. I have been a WWII prop builder, but am throwing together a Mig-23 and Phantom with my son.

Hi Mucker & Jose.

Here’s a link to a thread on this with some photo’s included.

hope this helps

Wow. Thanks, Mark. I actually printed the thread! This should be very helpful. I can now"modernize" by dabbling outside of the propeller era (but not too much).

Be warned mucker,

working on jets can be ‘exhausting’ [;)]

Har-dee-har-har. Oh Mark that was so bad!! LOL!
There’s some paint by the makers of Alclad II called Prismatic paint, it helps show some of the funky colors caused by heat on metal. Never used it myself though…

Here is what mine looks like… They were both done with Model Master Metalizers, the interior in burnt metal and the exterior non-buffing aluminum. They can be weathered later with more metalizers, pastels and or washes…
