a b-24j build in progress..................

folks this build has been ongoing for a little while but i want to update you. this is the minicraft b-24j in 1/72. the kit decals although nice are not what i want for this one. i am going to do a custom build on this. but i jump too far ahead. first let me bring you up to date a bit.

first off i scratchbuilt some seats.

then i added some interior wiring. not operational though.

then i wanted to make a good paint job on the fins so i tackled them next.

with that done i added the pit and gun deck.

more on this to come.

Wow! outstanding Joe. I really like the extra work you’re puutting in to this one. Can’t wait to see more.

Jerry

Way to go, Joe! Looks like a lot of work to come.

Dan

Sweet !

You’re packin the detail into that one - great job.

Chris

Looking good Joe. Keep us posted.

Regards, Rick

what kind of glue do you use?
it appears shiny on some spots-at glue contact posints
nice model! love it

Hey joe
I’m currently constructing minicrafts 1/72 B24D variant, which I to have revamped except I used Eduards parts from the Eduard detail set for the B24J as well as a Squadron canopy.
I also did a little scratchbuilding in the bomb bay by adding some new ribbing and wiring, I also added a bit more detail in the waist gunners compartment.

Just a WARNING make sure you add lots of wait to the nose as I added about 30g and it is still very tail heavy so be carefull, and I can’t wait to see your finished Libby.
Maybe I’ll post a pic or two of my libby for you to see!??

Hey Joe,
Great start my friend. Is this going to be a “What If” build or will it be attached to a certain Squadron??
Is there going to be nose art??[;)] Looking forward to seeing the finished build. Take care.
Flaps up, Mike

JOe, the attention to detail so far is great. THat’s a neat airplane. How are minicraft models?

So far so good, Joe!
Looking forward to seeing your finished Libby.

many many thanks to all for the kind words. sorry for the delay in response. had a bit of a computer hiccup.

jinithith2 i use both superglue and ambroid proweld. the shiny spots you see will either be covered by the fuse being glued or caught when i paint. stuka i used a ton of wieght in the nose. kind of concerned about the stress on the landing gear. we shall see. cant wait to see yours. mike this will most definitely be a tribute build. i am not going to reveal the name or number just yet. there is a story and i dont want to spoil it. and yes there will be nose art. mucker the minicraft seem pretty good, read this is the first one i have tried. there is a decent amount of detail and decent lines.

again many many thanks to all of you for the kind words.

joe

Looks like she is coming together nicely Joe

Joe, I can’t comment on the Minicraft B-24 in 1/72, though I’ve heard nice things about the kit, and yours certainly is getting off to a nice build. I look forward to seeing it. What decals are you using? Just curious.
Oh, the comment I can’t make: I CAN comment on the Monogram B-24’s. I built the D as an assembly ship years ago. For its age, this is still a nice kit, especially when dressed up with PE, and I enjoyed painting all those multi-colored polka dots on it (using frisket film and a 1/4" hole puncher from the office supply store. Worked like a charm and made the job fairly easy).
But as for the landing gear on the B-24, the front one is short and stubby, but the main gear, because this was a great big high-wing aircraft, are long and spindly, and scaling it down, they’re still long and spindly, so weight is going to be an issue. No more than is absolutely necessary.
As for decals, the Zotz/Albatross B-24’s are the best I’ve seen (though I haven’t seen that many for the B-24 lately), and come in both scales. I have them in 1/48, but don’t have time to build another Liberator for the next five years.

Off to a great start, Joe, looking forward to seeing it come together!! [:)]

Take care,
Frank

Great progress Joe.
