I heard about the 1/48 re-issue a couple of months ago. I have placed my order for 2.
I am currently working on the old 1/48 Revell that I picked up on craigslist for ‘can you believe’ $20.

And the Tamiya 1/72 scale kit is the Italeri offering. Tamiya never produced an A-6 in any scale.
Ah, i thought the molding looked familiar. Might pick up another one and ditch the majority of my italeri one. The tankers looking a little worse for wear but i still want it as a tanker. Oh well.

Well if your going to ditch the KA-6D can I get the Wind screen and canopy. I screwed up and broke the windscreen on my Italeri EA-6A.
It’s a nice kit. The original molds date from the late 80s. The MERs are very nice, but I wish they had provided 500lb instead of 250lb Snakeeyes. The Rockeyes and Harpoons were decent too… I wonder what squadron markings they will provide…
Really 250lb Snakeeyes? Wasn’t the Snakeeye just simply a 500lb bomb with retarding fins for use at low altitude (5000 ft and below). Sorta like the 500lb bomb with the JDAMs guidance package.
Yes, it was. But the fins came in different sizes for the different Mk 80 series bombs. I was gonna use them on a Marine Skyhawk until it met with disaster during the painting phase. Found a nice pic of an A-4 loaded out with 250 lb Snakeeyes and Napalm. Before GBUs and JDAM, low level was the most accurate way to deliver bombs. But just look at the loss rates for fast movers in Vietnam to see how vulnerable they were at low level.

However, Tamiya did do an A-6A in 1/100 scale back in the 70’s as part of their 1/100 scale aircraft range. I believe it comes back around every few years, but it’s more a collectors’ curiosity.
since this is already about 3 different scales, I’ll add that even though Mike’s 1/72 list just came out, it lists the Revell kits as being Italeri reboxings,well, a couple of them might have been, the newer ones,but, at least three of the old Revell kit numbers are the much less detailed copies of the Hasegawa kit,the old Revell boxes and the Flight of the Intruder boxing,any doubt is erased when you see that horrid split canopy
and, yes, I tested it,the Hasegawa and Revell right and left fuselage halves mate right up to each other, and they have the same old Has mishapen MER’s in them, too

I think those Hasegawa kits could be dressed up with and Italeri A-6 canopy and wind screen though.
Actually a steep dive angle was the most accurate delivery profile, but it also put the aircraft at high risk from enemy ground fire. Low level delivery was safer from ground fire, but put the aircraft at risk of getting fragged by it’s own ordinance. That’s the reason for retarded ordinance. The flight path of snakes wasn’t all that predictable, but usually they didn’t have far to go.
