A-10 Warthog

Hi Everyone, this is my first post as I just recently got back into serious modeling. I was about to start a new Revall, A-10 Warhog in 1/48. I was wondering if anyone had some great sites or advice, to get the most out of this beast. Thanks!

well first off [#welcome] to FSM forum
well there is an excellent A-10 website http://www.warthogpen.com/ but it’s kind of off line for a few, but the guy who runs it drops in and checks with us, I also worked on the Warthog’s for 4 years and was deployed to Afghanistan & Iraq with them, and I’ve built the Revell/Monograms A-10’s (both in 1/48 & 1/72)
1.) the engine fans are to close to the nacelle lip, add about 1/4 inch of styrene stock to the fan and glue it to the nacelle parts,
2.) the square thing in between the engines needs to be opened up on the front and aft sides (this is the bleed air pre-cooler intake & ejector exhaust)
3.) on the left fuselage the tear drop shaped plate that’s under the engine the round bump needs to be opened up (this is the APU exhaust) and go forward one row of rivets and just above the tear drop open a smaller hole (this is the APU heat vent)
4.) also on this part up front by the ladder door, there is a circular hole in front of the long flat scoop that points aft and is glued in front of the ladder, this too needs a scoop facing aft (this is a vent port for the gun)
5.) on the right fuselage under the r/h engine there is another round bump open this up too (this is the Air Conditioner exhaust)
I have more information for you but I need to look at the kit to remind me of the faults it has,

Cuda knows ‘Hawgs’!! Here are some other sites that might help.

And here is all I’ve been able to find in the line of aftermarket. It’s intended for the Tamiya kit but, I’m sure it could be adapted to the R-M kit.

The Revell 1/48 Warthog is a really nice kit. I can’t say the same for the 1/72 one.

Whenever you need help with anything, feel free to ask the very helpful members and staff of these forums.

Singer I just finished the same kit. The cockpit has some fit problems so be ready for that. The main landing gear doors are tricky. I did not like the kit gun so I scratchbuilt my own. The kit decals are not to bad but I do not know if they are correct for Captain Cambells Hawg that she flew in OIF. Check with Cuda for a OIF weapons loadout if thats the Hawg you are building. Oh and this kit will take some time and putty so plan at least a month.

Hi Singer and welcome to the forums. [^] Most of my site is still active and you should visit the “modeling/skinning” section to see the external changes to the A-10 in the past few years and which ones you want to include in your build.

I’ll be more than happy to answer any questions on the Hawg I can. [8D]

hey DICE;
evertime I go to your site it states that you’ve had taken it down, so wassup? has BRAC hit Hill?

No Kuda not Hill, just me! [:D] The contract I was working under was not renewed so I lost my job with the A-10 SPO. They did call me yesterday and say they have enough money for us to come back until Nov 30th but, after that I’m outa’ work again. I have unemployment fired-up and I’m trying every way I can get my foot in the door on the GS/WG side of the house. I guess you can say I got a two month reprieve from the governor but that will be over before you know it.

I do have a message on the Hog Pen that I was going to take it down so it wasn’t just missing one day but, all the links are active it’s just the News/Update section that’s not being updated. A friend of mine has asked how much it costs to run the site and he’s thinking about covering the cost for a few months so…more to come on where the Hog Pen is going. [?]

Dice;
I feel for you, I know how you feel, been there and done that, have you thought about going ANG or Reserves (they have a program so you could become a WEEKENDER) and you could suck up some Mandays (active duty days with full points & pay), and maybe become an ART (Air Reserve Technician, or Air Guard Technician WG-10 to WG 11) it’s something to think about and it’s government work and job + you only need to do is 10 more years to get the full government retirement with full A/D retirement when done
singershu13;
also on the Monogram A-10, if your going to do an A-10 in current inventory?
there are some add ons to the kit like the
1.)LASTE mod, need to add two (2) bumps on the bottom of the outside of the vertical stabilizers, and a bump on the bottom of the horizontal stabilizer,
2.)then you have EGI mod; (GPS) this is a round bump with a circular plate on top behind the cockpit,
3.) and some A/C have LARS mod; it is 2 Blade Antenna’s on the bottom of the nose behind the bar looking antenna about half way between the nose gear and the leading edges of the wings,
4.) there are some mod in the cockpit but in this scale it’s hard to tell,
5.) the painting directions will be wrong on the current A/C, the landing gear struts & wheel’s are now gloss white, while the EURO 1 Scheme they are Gloss Aircraft Gray (GAG), the wells are GAG as with the gun bay,
6.) the engines
a.)tail cones on Ghost Scheme are Dk Ghost Gray not Metallic, and Euro 1 Scheme its the same but what ever color is around the aft edge
b.)and the engine inner nacelles are Flat Black with Gloss White on the outer walls
