Getting ready to start my A-10 and am curious about the color of the cockpit instument panels. The instruction in the kit call for them to be black. However, most of the pictures I’ve seen they look like a dark grey or even a bluish-black. Based on the photos, black just seems to, well, black. On top of that, I’m partially color blind so what my brain says my eyes see may be off. So any help would be appreciated.
And in case it matters, I’m building the R/M Thunderbolt II.
cwalker, I’m sure they are black. But you’re right, most blacks are just too darn black. If i were you, I’d mix up some “scale black” using some black and white paints. That should let some detail pop out while still being “black” and not gray. Good luck!
Thanks guys for the advice and AirMaster for the link. Great site. I’m thinking about trying Nato Black. It’s the shade I’ve used for tires on my armor and it’s a little lighter shade of black. And from what I can see it might be a little closer match to what I saw in AirMaster’s link.
I use Grimey Black for my tires. I wasn’t sure what kind of modeling budget you were on, so i suggested the cheap way[;)] There’s so many shades of black you’re bound to find one that matches your needs! Please keep us updated on the kit, I’ve got one in my stash.
What brand is Grimey Black? I know I’ve seen it on a few sites but can’t remember the maker. As for Nato Black, it’s a Tamiya color and sitting here looking out the door at my truck’s tires, it’s almost a perfect match.
