72nd Scale Desert Storm Jaguar GR.1A

This is one of 2 Jaguars that I have built over the years. This is the Italeri kit.
I was surprised how nicely detailed it was though not as crisp as the Hasegawa offering still adequate enough to be a decent build compared to other Italeri kits which can be poor.

This kit, built several years ago before I had a digital, and lately with time on my hands I’ve breaking some older builds which I have no images of. This is the 2nd of the 2 that I have built in this scale to date. The 1st is the Hasegawa kit that was previously mentioned. These Jaguars along with several on going builds is part of a large project of all Desert Storm Aircraft that participated in the 1st Gulf War along with the Iraqi Aircraft as well.

This Jaguar, XZ356, Flown by CO Wing Cdr Bill Pixton “Mary Rose” flew missions out of Muharraq Air Base in Bahrain. Loaded out with a Recce Pod,
AN/ALQ-101 (V) -10 Jammer pod, Phimat Pod (still need to install it), pair of Aim-9L Sidewinders and CBU-87 Cluster bombs.

Using Xtracolour Desert Pink overall, post shaded with a little black added to the base Desert Pink. This plane has survived several moves since it’s completion and have since lost the nose gear doors. Decals are from ModelDecal sheet #72-109, this sheet is over 12 years old and the decals still respond very well to date. There are several other Jags along with Tornado’s, Victor Tankers,Has.3 Lynx, and Buccaneers. I’m hoping to do them all. And I have all the kits including the Victor. So this is an ongoing project.

Interesting subjects, with the nose art. I say the Brit’s have a great imagination and beautiful art work on the various planes in theatre. I personally admired those Tornado’s of No.20 Sqdn in Tabuk, AB in Saudi Arabia, while based there with HCS-5. Nice bunch of lads. More images to follow.

Nice Jag, You have set yourself up for quite a project. Are you intending to model all coalition aircraft or just the ones from Britain?

More images of Italeri’s 72nd scale Desert Storm SEPECAT Jaguar GR.1A

Always did like the look of the Jag, light attack aircraft similar to the capability of the USN’s A-7. Except maybe the Jag is able to take on a Recon mission in which the A-7 I believe was never tasked to do. Would like to do one of these in 48rh scale.

Maybe this weekend I’ll get the Hasegawa kit down and get some images of that build. Good Night for now.

Very nice work. Thanks for sharing.

Nicely done! I built a Airfix Jag in 1/48 quite a few years back in the markings of the “Pink Spitfire” I’ve always intended to build it again, along with a GR1 Tornado and the Buccaneer. Your Jag has certainly inspired me!

Beautiful Jag! I’ve only seen one once in the Gulf while I was stationed on CV-61in 91. Thought you’d enjoy it.

Nice lookin’ Jag!

Great job on the Jag, Chuck!! The weathering is well done; really makes it look good, thanks!

Take care, [:)]

looks good from my house Chuck, thanks for the peek![tup]

Thanks gang:
Eddie-nice image of the Jag, hard to tell if it is RAF or a French bird. I was leaning towards a RAF only because looks like the overwing Sidewinder rails are there though not clear, but the doubt is the camo scheme.
BsStrump, Oldhooker (nice Monte Carlo by the way),saltydog,Tango1,spike,rjkplasticmod and Ajacketsfan.
Though I should’ve waited to post these images with the replacement nose gear doors. Or borrowed them from the other Jag for the photo session. I was taught the post shading by a friend several years ago. I like the way it turned out. I have a Tornado GR.1 project on going and I used the preshading method
I’m hoping it comes like the 2 Jags. I’ll bring down the other Jag this weekend. as a comparison will get them side by side.
