Nice to see some IJA armour from someone other than FineMolds! I like the British 25 pounder as well and since I don’t have the Tamiya kit I might very well it up as too.

Guys, don’t get too excited just yet. They are still researching this tank. That’s why the pics are old, rusted out examples. Dragon has has a blog going this past week about a research trip for a new kit. They just revealed the subject is this Type 2. We’re not going to be seeing this one on our LHS’s shelves for awhile.

I didn’t go though all the blog entries but I’m assuming they’re going to provide the two large pontoons that attach to the front and back of the tank? I wish I could find a photo on the internet but I’ve an Osprey book at home on IJA tanks that shows that with the pontoons in place the whole thing has a long streamlined boat shape. Really a cool different looking vehicle.

And I can wait, I’ve got enough stuff in my stash now for three lifetimes.

Very cool to see it’s actually going into production. Sorry to hear that if you want the pontoons you’ll either have to scratchbuild them or wait for aftermarket ones.

Manny: I think I know the engineering vehicle you’re thinking of. I believe it was an experimental jury-rigged AFV and only one was built. I’ll see if I can find a photo.

Here’s my prediction. DML is releasing this tank now WITHOUT the pontoons first then in a year DML will make another announcement that they are releasing the tank WITH the pontoons. DML at its best of milking our $$$ just like kits with Zimmerits. [:D] So I will take the chance to wait for a year or two…

I’ve only seen this one photo. It’s published in Gordon L. Rottman & Akira Takizawa’s ‘World War II Japanese Tank Tactics’ published in Osprey’s ‘Elite’ line. The only information on it is in the photo caption. Seemed it was from the IJA 2nd Tank Division on Luzon and ended up captured by Allied troops. The forks were used for plowing up AT mines and could also be used for ripping up barbed wire and dense vegetation.
