60th Anniversary Korean War Group Build- extended for the duration

Count me in Stik.

Would like to do the Testor 1/35 M47. But not sure if it qualifies.

If not, just put done as TBD.

See ya

Scott

P.S. Need some input on the patch for this GB?

Carlos:

My kit will be the 1/48 Hasegawa F-86F, backdated to an “E” using Scobie-Do Productions resin wing conversion kit.

I’m finishing up a Fw190 for Frank’s “Reichdefender” GB and then I’ll get going on this Sabre!

OK guys I have updated the roster-

Sim, what scale is the Italeri F4U?

M1, I have read that M47s were field tested in Korea, but they were not mainstream equipment. If you have anything you can point me towards that shows one of those M47s, I say go for it. If it was in theater during combat, go for it.

Mucker- very good on your backdate. Just curious as to what markings you will be choosing for your Saber? 4th or 51st?

4th in the honor of General Robinson Risner, a personal hero of mine. His book on his capture by the North Vietnemese, The Passing of the Night, is a must read for those interested in POW topics. It’s one of those book to read when you think YOU’RE life sucks. What our POW’s went through is unthinkable.

I’ve already has custom decals made.

[Y] Excellent choice! And yes, perspective is good thing when life starts getting you down. Everything is relative.

Stik, the F4U-4B is 1/72. I have a set of AM decals for it and will be in the markings of a Marine squadron synonymous with the bent wing bird, VMF-214.

Here’s the pics from the start. I apologize now for those with dial-up.

PE rudder pedals

Ignition harness added with strip styrene, and copper wire. Pushrods are stretched black sprue.

And this is where it’s at when last worked on. Looks like I don’t have much but there is still a great deal to do.

Sim I am always amazed by those who can do that sort of work in 1/72! I will update the roster for scale on your build. I like your choice of the markings, the Blacksheep. Certainly a squadron with lots of history with the F4U. Only 11 days till kickoff.[whstl]

I did manage to obtain a turned metal barrel for my Centurion over the weekend at the local AMPS chapter meeting (along with another Centurion, which I plan to build as a 1956 Suez tank) So now I have everything I need for the tank. I still want to get a TC figure from Ultracast to replace the kit TC.

Great pics, Richie!!

Thanks Stik and Mucker!!![t$t] I actually started this kit, as I said, during the Corsair GB a couple years ago only because I was waiting on some PE to come over from the Ukraine for my Swordfish. Then after getting the PE concentrated on the Stringbag and after cutting the flaps off of the Corsair my enthusiasm waned and just put it away until I am ready to tackle it again, and the time is near as I keep having the visions of it setting with full ordinance and flaps dropped ready to ruin somebody’s day. Going to also be working on other projects as we all do but the year long stint should be time enough even for me lol.[proplr] Looking forward to seeing all the great work that’s in store for us all!!![t$t]

After looking through the stash, I’m finding many of the kits I was considering don’t have Korean war decals, so I’ll plan on starting with the 1/72 Hasegawa F9F-2. It includes decals for VF-781 which was deployed to Korea with F9F-2s on the Bon Homme Richard CV-31 from May-Dec 1951.

Aaron, will be a pleasure building with you again!!![t$t]

Aaron, you kit has been added to the roster! [Y]Love those Panther Jets!

Went to the best hobby shop around and the only korean war Tamiya kit I seen was an F-84, sadly it was 1/72 and I dont build those. I will be shopping around Ebay for a kit. I’m thinking of the M26 first. I’ll wait till the end of July/ early August to start a plane if I do one. There is an airshow (EAA) that goes on and they always have a Saber, and I believe a Mig too, great place to get reference pics.

Ok, no rush.

I ordered the chopper today. Should be here by the end of the week. I am definetly looking forward to this group build.

Me too. I have everythign I need for my Centurion now.[proplr]

Hobby Lobby has an F-86F-30 from Academy for 30% off, might pick that up. I did try it one other time so maybe its time for a second try.

Or wait a week or two and use the 40% off on any non-sale item that they run at least twice a month. Of course, you can’t use it if the models are 30% off that week. I miss the days when Hobby Lobby ran a 50% off on models-at least twice a year.

I thought about that, but they never keep more than one in stock at a time, atleast that I can see, and some models have a bunch on the shelf. I went out and bought it, a few $ difference wont hurt me. So my model is an Academy F-86F Sabre!

OK psycho (lighten up Francis… sorry couldnt helpmyslef [whstl]) your Saber is added to the roster. Any idea which markings you will choose? I am presuming yours is the 1/48 Acdemy kit.[8-)]
