I am looking for a 1/35 US ARMY 5-Ton Wrecker kit that was made by either Revell or Tester in the 70-80’s. Also looking for a source for a resin kit to modify a M60 to an bridgelayer. I am interested in combat engineering vehicles, since I used to work on them.
Hmm you can try E-bay for the wrecker… I know Hobby Fan makes a modification kit for the Italeri 5-ton truck kit. But it runs about 180.00$, also they make the M9 ACER armored dozer. As far as the bridge layer I’m not sure. Maybe the Tank work shop or Accurate Armour.

Thanks tnker101, I’ll look up the Hobby fan kit, but I think the Italeri kit is of a new 5-ton truck. Maybe I can back date the kit. THe new trucks have single tires on the rear axles and the older M800 series had doolies in the back. I labored for years on and off to build a CEV and now I see that there are two kits on the market, Atleast I can say I made it instead of I built it.
Real Models has a full kit resin M-62 wrecker. It may be out of production now. Hobby Fan has/had a full kit M-48 AVLB, very expensive.
Accurate Armor did the WLF version at about $250.00
Real models also makes a conversion kit to go with Italeri’s bigfoot 5t 6x6. it goes for about $90 at the hobby shop by me
This kit was originally released by Renwal and was based on the old M54 series 5 ton. Revell reissued it in the early 80s as the Military Wrecker. Very crude kit with over sized parts made to operate. I had one, and it wasn’t too bad. The kit was actually 1/32 scale.
The Italeri kit does represent the new 900 series 5 ton. There are two different wheel styles, the 10-wheel with the dual axles and the 6-wheel with the single tires. So an M936 wrecker has 10 wheels and an M936A2 has 6 wheels.
There’s also an older M816 wrecker that has 10 wheels as well. I have photos of the M816, M936, M936A2 and the newest FMTV M1078 5 ton wrecker in my motor pool.
Hey! I’m all for an M-62 kit, I spent 1 1/2 years behind the wheel of one in Germany a generation ago. AFV should make an M54 kit to go with their Viet Nam stuff. We could kit bash one into many configurations.
I wish they would come out with a M936A2 kit . I was on one for 2 yrs in Korea . one that has the STIS on it
Is there a kit available in 1/35 of the FMTV M1078 5 ton wrecker? Or maybe even just an FMTV.
I hope you have some luck trying to find your wrecker.
