You can find a 2400 ft roll of 38 gauge copper wire on sale on eBay right now for $4.08 “buy it now” price. That should last you pretty much forever.
Magnet wire (bare or varnished copper wire) is getting hard to find, as electronics mfgs go to more proprietary vs standard parts, and diy electronics is dying as a hobby. I always go through old radios and TVs before I throw them away, find all coils and transformers and strip the wire from them. Also I find Michaels and other craft stores have some very fine wire in their beading sections.
I am looking into that eBay thing too! That is a real bargain.
There is also a listing for 100’ of nichrome wire, 38 gauge, for $6 with free shipping. Although the 2400 ft. roll ships for only $2. Don’t know if the difference between nichrome and copper would have any significance for what you want to use the wire for. And no, I have no connection to the supplier. 2400’ just seems like an incredible amount of wire for a low price.
2,400 ft? That’s about 800 yards and will last truly forever.
thank’s guy’s but I was too late ., I’ll keep looking though
ngineering.com, a model railroad supplier, is a gold mine of stuff for modeling that you can’t get anywhere else, and they have 38 ga wire. They also have items such as ultra fine straightened wire in sizes as small as .004" that I plan to try for small scale biplane rigging, LEDs down to nano size for lighting kits, and a wide assortment of circuit assemblies for lighting effects. Check them out, it’s inspiring looking through their online catalog for ideas.
The neat thing about magnet wire is that it is coated with a special form of varnish that sticks super well to the wire, and will take paint well. Priming wire for painting is difficult for really bare wire. That is why I prefer magnet wire.
