251/20 UHU Slowgress report Pg.4 Nov 11

Well after the last disaster with the Japanese Armoured Car… Cough…Cough, let that sleeping dog lie.

I was “Stash Surfing” and the call of this kit was irresistible. I got it cheap a while back and the kit had no tracks. Bish was very kind in sending me some replacement sets, thanks man.

So I could call this kit a “son of a Bish”[8-]. There goes any comedy career for me.

Well I think this kit is a beauty, fit is excellent and so far so good. I will prime the plastic on this one.

Of interest to me is how it will shape up in comparison to a Dragon kit.

So on with the pic’s…

The chassis is made up of multiple parts and is quite straight forward.

I replaced the inner armour plates with plasticard, the detail seemed kinda light.

Assembly is easy enough with no filling problems so far.

Some of the torsion bar stoppers, quite small but well detailed.

More suspension,

The following shots are just dryrun,

I’m on holidays next week so I hope to make some progress as I am using the time to rest not work on the house.

Thanks for looking.

Terry.

Awesome looks like your off to a very good start! Can’t wait to see this thing built up in your next updates.

Lookin’ mighty fine so far, terry35![tup] Do I dare say it looks like this kit is really just snapping together when compared to that cough Japanese armored car.

“Not work on the house?”

Oh come on…[:-^]

This will be interesting to follow Terry, and don’t let the maintenance of the house get on top of you [swg] Mrs. Grem56 keeps making threatening gesture with a pot of paint and a brush but I have parried the attacks so far [oX)]

Julian [:)]

We need to change the name from The FSM Forum to The 251/* Forum[;)]

Nice start Terry.

First there was a wave of panthers, now there’s a wave of 251s! Catch the wave!

Nice work so far Terry, looking forward to see what you do with this one. [tup]

I’ve heard a lot of talk about the AFV Club 1/2s but this is the first to see a build.

I’ll be watchin Tony the Mutt

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Agentg, Michael, Bill, Tony, Julian, Marc and Brandon. I have been looking for reference and I pretty happy wit what I’ve found so far.

The problem with the missing generator is almost solved, I found this site

http://www.ipmssantarosa.org/feature_showcase/sc_012/sc_012.htm

This Guy Jack Riggar has done a fantastic job and I think I can emmulate some of the great work done on that kit. I have different ideas for the lenses on the IR gear but all in all I think the choices for finish are really plain dunkelgelb or a hard edge camo.

Thanks again,

Terry.

Glad i could help with the tracks. Wish i had seen that site a few weeks ago as i recently bought the blast models resin set for my AFV kit, o well. Will be looking forward to this as i plan on doing my UHU some time next year.

You can never have enough 251’s.

Thanks Bish, with theh blast kit are there any dials controls for the generator any where on the unit.

I plan on scratchbuilding the generator and any info regarding its appearance would be great.

Terry.

I don’t have it with me as its back in camp, but from what i remebber it doesn’t, but when i go back i will have a proper look.Bufflehead has already used it for his UHU so he might be able to help with the details.

Thanks Bish, appreciate it. I am going to try and get some paint down this weekend.

Terry.

I’m just posting a small update, I got a generator scratch built over the last two nights. It’s not 100% but I’m using it to size up the amount of available space I have to work with. I do intend to do a better one later on.

It’s actually pretty rough.

I just cut a shed load of rectangles and squares

The results so far…

Thats all for now Folks.

Thanks for looking,

Terry.

I know this is just a rough one to work out the size, and i think you have the width about right, but from what i can tell i think it should be longer, as in across the vehicle. Also, i think the isdes are smooth. I notice on the 251 GB you mention the Blast models update. Well if you do decide to go that route you can get it in the UK from AFV modeller, here’s the link

http://shop.afvmodeller.com/customer/product.php?productid=17207&cat=&page=1&XCARTSESSID=5ee179adb862b3b6a2eea8aacf36beab

Looks like a good start at the mock-up for size purposes Terry…it always amazes me how the Germans were able to cram stuff into the 251 and make it work. This one’s no exception but I would really really hate to be the driver!

Wow, thanks Bish I was on blasts site and when I done the maths it kinda looked like daylight robbery. The postage looked like … daylight robbery.

I’ve worked out that the blast set from AFV is the easy to go. I will get a preloaded credit card when I’m in town tomorrow having a few pints.

Bill, yeah they seemed to pack all kinds of junk into these vehicles, the 251/22 in particular, the driver’s must have been hand picked from guys who were contortionists to get past that PAK 40.

I don’t want to do any more scratching when the solution is easy and cheapish. I have spent too much time guessing and second guessing with little or no reference. I’m not going to spoil this beautiful kit of a really beautiful vehicle. After seeing Earnest’s one over in the 251GB I’m more determined to finish it to as high a standard as possible.

Thanks again Bish and Bill.

Cheers and I hope to add shots of the blast set with the kit.

Terry.

I was looking at the Blast site myself, but as i only have a card that works in the UK i was a bit stumped. I was just lucky to stumble across it on the AFV site. It came to just under £24 with shipping and tax, not sure if thats much cheaper than the Blast site. Looking forward to seeing it come together.

Hi Bish on the blast site I had to bump the order up to at least €20 before tax and then with tax it was €42 plus shrapnel. I’d rekon on 30 Yo’ Yo’s, and I don’t consider that too bad.

Terry.

That generator is just a mock up? Pretty detailed for something that is going to get redone. Granted I have no idea what it really looks like but that sure look pretty darn good to me.
